Advertising apartment in Spain

Hi all, am looking for advice. We have a place on the Costa Almeria and would like to rent it out - I know will not get full occupancy, just the odd week would be good.

Does anyone here have any experience of advertising a place in Spain? if so, what web sites do you you use? We've had a look at holidaylettings, spain-holiday and ownersdirect - latter one looks best?

Also, what about golf mags (we're near a lot of courses), civil service mags (do you have to work in it to advertise?) etc.

Would also be interested to hear from people who book property - how do you go about it etc?

Thanks.

  • Having booked many holiday properties, I always check out https://www.holiday-rentals.com first - very easy to search for houses and nice and clear to look at.

The www.laymyhat.com forum is for people renting out their houses and apartments for holiday lets. They seem to suggest different websites, how to market your own property etc etc.

Thanks both of you - holiday-rentals was on my 'one to watch' I also thought the site looked good, but there are no other apts in my area - not sure if this is good / bad. Good to know you find it easy to use - some are so confusing!

laymyhat looks wonderful, have had a quick look & picked up some tips already, will be adding to my favourites & memorising every word!

We usually book with the hotel direct, but if what we wanted wasnt available we would probably look on Expedia or lastminute.com for an alternative.

We did consider Costa Almeria for a long weekend just as a trial but decided against it as the brochures we looked at differed in opinion as to how far the resort was from the airport! This would be an important factor for us as we dont hire cars abroad so it would have to be reachable in a reasonable amount of time in a taxi, say 30mins and not in a remote location.

Don't know where/what type of accommodation you have, but if your place is all the things ive mentioned above, perhaps you could let me know a bit more...? You can pm me if you prefer. (or you can post details on here, be inundated with bookings and save on the advertising!!!):rotfl:

  • July and Aug you may be able to rent it no problem. Out with that if its just your standard 2 bed on an urbanisation you will maybe get £150 per week.
You could try ebay. You could format your ad for a price per day.
ie you are bidding on 1st days accom. subsequent days will be charged at xxx.
Thats to keep final value fees down.
If you use holiday rentals or someone you could put a link in your ebay ad to that site

Never thought of ebay, thanks for that!

After going on laymyhat.com I feel inspired to build my own website (well DS will, that's what I grew him for. That & cutting the grass :D ), post on some of the letting sites and link it to my own site with more piccies etc.

Mrs(no)money I wasn't touting for business  , yikes, you'll get me thrown off the site!!! Doubt it would be to your taste actually, unless you like the rustic (i.e. 1/2 finished) look!!! Should be ready in December 23_3_60.gif - will settle for Easter!

We are near Mojacar which is 40 mins from Almeria airport, so no good for you. However, you should consider hiring a car to get out & about and explore the real Spain. (Watch out for me though - I'll be the one with the scared expression gripping the wheel tightly.......is easy to drive out there once you get to grips with the terror factor).

 OMG! i never thought for a moment you were touting, and i was only joking about saving on the advertising! I know it wouldnt even enter your head to do such a thing....:o

You're right, i dont generally do 'rustic', not after corfu many years ago:eek: - long story:D

Good luck with it though, and yes, Easter may be more realistic :rotfl:

    Hasta luego!

Have a look on https://www.jet2.com on their website they advertise a site which rents out apartments and villas on the costa's. Other good places to advertise are Private Villas magazine, The Lady magazine, also your local newspaper. Have you thought of putting your own website on the internet.

I would not bother with golf mags - too expensive for too few bookings.
  • I have just advertised our property in the Cosat Del Sol with
https://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk and within 4 hours i had a booking for 2 weeks in August, it cost me 228 pounds for a years advertising, if i get more bookings as quick as this it will be worth the spend.

We also have our own website, but the editors of advertisments for holiday rentals removed this from the text, however you can post your website address, just leave out the www. and the .co.uk and their software will not pick it up.
    Regards
