    I used to get all my child benefit and WFTC paid straight into my kids account before i was broke and had to use it!

    Legally that is your account. I had one for my son when he was small and was told that for tax/benefits purposes the money in it was mine until he could legally take the account over at age 7, at which time my name was taken off it.

    same with me. Been that way for 7 years and they've just increased it due to baby no2 arriving on the scene so if its slipped through first time then it did it again
  • coventry B.S do a good account called Family 1st, where you have two accounts, one for savings at around 5% and one for child benefit where you get a good rate of interest for the first year of above 7%, thereafter both drop by 1% but still very good, so why not do that and when your child is old enough transfer it all into their account?
    If you don't have something nice to say don't bother saying anything at all.

    does anyone know why I cant have my daughters child benefit paid directly into their accounts? after all its their money.

    My understanding was it is to do with you getting HRP (Home Responsibilities Protection) :confused:

    HRP has nothing to do with the accts the money is paid in to to, it is recorded on the claimants, ie the parents/guardians, record.
    I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
