House prices set to surge

According to research from estate agency Your Move, the housing market is set to surge once the world says goodbye to the greatest show on earth.
In fact, the estate agency says that according to official Government figures the number of transactions in the month following the last seven World Cups has risen by an average of 8% compared to the month of the tournament.
Either way, it’s great to hear a positive housing market forecast, because not everyone is currently feeling so rosy about the property market.

When's the cup being paraded through London?

I think Your Move have confused correlation and causation. Easy done.

so a few people didn't buy in june/july because they were watching the telly, then they buy a month later in August. ok, why does that cause prices to surge?

They will surge again. There will be 25-30% increases in the space of a year just as there were in 1973, 1978, 1988, 2002. My guess is that it won't be for another 2-3 years though.
