Sky - No picture or sound

Dear all
I have an old sky box (Amstrad digibox) and this morning, after receiving poor signal for a few days, I turned on to find that I had picture but no sound. I turned off at the wall and when I tried to turn on again I had no picture or sound. Box will not turn on - just had the red light on and thats it.
I phoned sky but none of their turning off and on again, pressing back up etc suggestions worked.
Any suggestions?
If not, I imagine Ill have to call an engineer. Particualrly annoying as when sky last came out (over a year ago) they gave us an older version of sky box to replace our new one. This means we dont get full widescreen or anything. Maybe its a dodgy box.
Anyone know any cheap engineers who can be called out at short notice to provide the same service as sky but for less expense? I live in South East london (SE13).
Thanks

Just buy another Sky Receiver from a Car Boot Sale or eBay.
All Sky Receivers are capable of widescreen ( as far as I am aware ), the settings just require changing within the menu.0 -

Sounds like the PSU on the box has blown. When Sky came out to you last, they fitted a reconditioned box to replace your broken one,the replacement being a previously broken one which went away to be fixed.Quite often, the original fault is still evident on the box,the repairer checking to see if it works OK on reciept at the depot & sticks it back out for use.
As Inactive say's,go to a car boot sale & pick one up there.I get them for around £7 to £15 depending on type, especially with people getting the HD in now.
Even on e-bay,the's boxes going for as little as 99p!

Ok thanks. Can I just buy any old sky box or does it have to be the same model or have specific requirements?
Is it then just a case of connecting the wires and inserting the card?
Sorry - I am a technophobe!0 -

Yes but you'll have to pair the card to the box to get your regional stations.
One the remote,press:
4
0-1-select
That should take you to the 'installer set up' menu.
Go to 'new install' & follow the instructions on the screen. If you have movies &/or sports & no phoneline connected, you may need to call Sky to get them switched over from the old box to the new one.
If you can,get one of these Pace boxes as they are the newer type.
However stay away from Grundig,Amstrad & the old Panasonic ones!!!0 -
Excellent. Many thanks.
Right - have just put a bid in on ebay for one of those Pace boxes on your recommendation. Fingers crossed0 -
That is really kind thank you. Will that work as a replacement then? Just a case of plugging in the wires and reinstalling?). I keep getting outbid for Pace boxes on ebay so this is great.
Have sent you a pm0 -
Very kind of you Will, that Panasonic 30 is probably a better bet than the new shaped Pace anyway.;)0
