record from DTV to VCR

I would like advise on how to set up a vcr to record from a new DTV. The new TV will record the five terrestrial channels but I have been unable to work out how to extend this to the other channels. Is this a simple setup or is other equipment required?

A VCR records from it's own internal tuner, not from the TV. That is how you can watch one channel and record another.
So a VCR with an analogue tuner cannot record the digital Freeview channels, only the five analogue channels (if you are in an area where they are still transmitting). No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks for the info. However, could you explain how I can record the digital channels through my tv/vcr combi from my freeview box. The combi is very old but I have been able to record to video ever since I had the freeview box. I understand your answer but I don't understand the technology which allows one old set to record digital programmes but not a new DTV and not very old VCR both the same make, i.e. Panasonic.
Thanks.0 -
Hi, as macman says ,it is nothing to do with the new tv. You have been recording the digital channels directly off the freeview box on to the vcr , they would record whether the tv was connected or not. As long as you havent altered the connections between the freeview box and the vcr it will still record the digital channels from the freeview box. Some early digital tvs did allow you to output the digital signal to a recorder however it was only possible to record the channel you were actually watching and the tv had to be left on- no good if you wanted to record when you were out.0
