    Hi,
I used to get psoriasis (although only on arms/legs) The intense itching on legs esp after shower/bath used to drive me insane.
I used tea tree oil which cooled it down and stopped me scratching.

I then started taking vitamin B complex and it cleared up completely. It took 3 months but have been clear now for over 8 years. Coincidence? I don't know but it worked/works for me.

I don't know what is in it, but my Mum suffered from psoriasis for 50 years, and then she was put on medication for arthritis and it all went away!!! not sure what the ingredients were!!

Hello, as a lot of what's being suggested can be bought over the counter I don't think any recommendations given can constitute as 'medical advice', as the OP could just go and buy each thing to try anyway!

I've suffered from psoriasis on my scalp since I was about 10 (now 28), and was using Alphosyl shampoo for a long time to keep the symptoms at bay - it's a smelly coal tar type one, about £6.99 over the counter in Boots so cheaper than a prescription and you get your points. That stopped working for me about a year ago though and I tried a couple of other things - Nizoral and Polytar did nothing for me whatsoever. Then I tried T Gel and have been amazed at the results, it even cleared a very stuborn patch which I'd had on my forehead for years (hidden under a fringe!).

I always use the psoriasis shampoo just on my scalp, and a normal shampoo on the rest of my hair to try and disguise the smell a bit.

Thanks to those who suggested Zinc and Vit B, going to give those a try! :)

  • hi does any one know any cheap treatments for psoriasis,
was using arachis oil (peanut oil) for scalp a few years ago which was really effective but i now cannot find anyone who sells it, to do with peanut allergies i think,
    thankyou xx

I was in a Chinese supermarket yesterday, they were selling big bottles of 'groundnut oil', which I think is basically peanut oil? If you've a Chinese/Oriental market close by might be worth checking out.
No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!

Have you tried mixing honey with another oil, like say, sunflower oil?

I recommend putting a bit of boiled water in with the honey, as honey by itself can be a bit drying, but paradoxically, honey with water helps skin feel soft and moisturised for ages!

Put the honey, sunflower oil, and water in a bottle, and give it a good shake. You'll have to work out the mixture that works for you, I'd start with half or less of a level teaspoon of honey, 10 ml water, 20 ml oil. Don't get carried away with the honey, a little goes a long way, and too much will feel bad.

Hope it goes well for you, Velvety. I am now adding aloe vera gel to the mixure, and it's working really well. Weirdly, it seems to make it all mix, so I don't have to shake it before each use!

The other thing is, if you're getting pimples, have you tried the oil cleansing method, using castor oil and a touch of tea tree oil? It's counterintuitive, but it really zapped spots and blackheads for me.

I have Psoriosis on my feet and ankles, drives me mad and is much worse when I am stressed or my mood drops. At night it keeps me awake and is hard not to scratch to the point of bleeding.

My doctor prescribed me Coal tar with Saylicit acid which is murder to apply but does seem to work. You apply and apparently rinse off. I don't rinse off though 'till the next morning (it does turn your skin black I should add-comes off when you rinse though). Not sure why it works, apparently its to do with stopping the skin cells multiply at the same rate. Not the most natural scented product either- smells like tar, looks like tar- its actually Crude oil which is what is in tar! But works and for that I am grateful.

Following that I was given some strong steroid cream which helped a little, but not much.

It goes without saying I did try a few natural and over the counter remedies first (Lush's Dream Cream, E45, Olive Oil, Eurax, E45hcl, Kiehl's Argan salve, Baby Oil, Fungal cream by Canesten for feet.... nothing worked- hence the doctors trip.)

I read abiut UV treatment but there are links to skin cancer so this put me off enquiring, however, the normal sun light seems to have helped my skin improve, could be a coincidence but I don't think so.

I've just developed it on my knees and elbows it's driving me mad!!! It all started on the palms of my hands and as my job is a cook I went straight to the doctors who gave me steroid cream which cleared it up on my palms straight away but hasn't worked anywhere else. I don't really like using steroid cream though so I'm looking for an alternative.

    Another Vote for SELSUN.

I can't recommend it highly enough - it works for both my mild scalp (and eyebrows) and my husbands much worse scalp condition.

I used to use somethng I got a perscription for and hubby was perscribed becnavate which when ur scalp is up is like fire water and I used to have to almost force him to use it coz it hurt him so much when his skin was bad.

Selsun was brought by accident and we have never looked back.

    Good luck
