My sister has a friend (single mother with nothing, no family, some mental issues) so throughout the year we put together a big box of things like washing-powder, loo-roll, catfood, tins etc with a long shelflife, and give it to her at Christmas.

Claire Bear - Its accepted practice at my local Aldi that those with full trolleys allow those behind them in the queue with a few items to go in front of them! even when there are two or more! the checkouts are so fast that no-one minds anyway!

I am always the five items or less person, although I don't expect to be let forwards and I have noticed some people really try to avoid your eye so they don't have to, its really really obvious!:D

I've done the car parking ticket one as well, when I have a couple of hours left I look around to see who is just pulling up and then go knock on the window and hand it to them. Sometimes there's a look of fear-thinking they're about to be mugged:eek: but then they're really happy to get the ticket so it all works out in the end!
I have also been on the receiving end of RAK and it really does brighten your day-so thanks to all the kind hearted souls out there who have taken pity on me:)

Me to (apart from when the council has the bit where you have to put digits of the car reg in grrrrrrrr) then have to look for someone with the same age car as me LOL
  • I work for Mr'S and one day I had a phone call from a customer who was rather upset, she said that her elderly uncle had come to our shop to do his shopping on the dial a ride bus, but when the dial a ride bus returned they told her that her uncle had not returned to the pick up point, so as I had the works mobile phone I went on to the shop floor to look for him, I found him sitting on a chair near our checkouts, when I asked him why he had missed the dial a ride he explained that he had just come out of hospital and that he had lost a lot of weight so that every time he stood up his trouser fell down so he had not done his shopping. So I took his list, done his shopping for him a organized a taxi for him, I got his shopping into the taxi and then helped him to get into the taxi with out loosing his trousers, I then called his niece to let her know he was on his way.

every time after that that he came into the store he would come up for a chat and to thank me, sadly he has know passed on but he was truely a loveley man.

In the store that I work one thing I can say is that most of the people are lovely, A smile and a offer of help dose go a long way, as I think if you Help others there may be a time when you need help.

I have started leaving any money-off coupons (for products I am not buying) tucked into the shelf edge in front of said product (like a coupon good fairy):rotfl::rotfl:. I hope that someone will see them and make use of them (especially another OSer):D.

I have even been known to stop and ask people who have the relevant products in their trolley if they would like the coupon :o. Sadly, an awful lot of them look at me like I'm about to mug them and steal their purse :( - and OH thinks I am nuts to even bother at all :(:(.

I know I would be delighted to be given any money off coupons - I'm not too proud to use them - but some of the reactions have made me think maybe OH is right!

    What do you think?

  • Just had to share this.
Been to the supermarket this morning. DD15 was with me. On arrival at the scanner bank, a lady dropped her purse and some coins fell out and rolled across the floor. DD immediately retrieved them and handed them back to said grateful lady.
Whilst perusing the magazines, near the flowers, a chap on a mobility scooter took the corner a bit too fast and knocked a bunch of flowers on the floor. DD immediately picked them up and put them back in the water bucket.

At the checkout, lady loading the conveyor belt left items at the end, not on the belt. DD said 'excuse me, are these yours?' and put them on the belt.

ALL WITHOUT ME PROMPTING HER. I must have [STRIKE]dragged[/STRIKE] brought her up right!!!!!

Ive turned news off as its all doom and gloom, and yes I know this is reality!!!
But I've read on this morning link about random acts of kindness and then the gov donate £5 for a christmas charity,
as wonderful as this sounds surely just becuase random acts of kindness should be just that,
just passing on the good turn??

My wonderful neighbour passed on a bag of clothes to my daugher this weekend and there were some lovely dresses that had been passed onto her, so in there is a lovely pink one that she will wear for her christmas parties so thats saved me money when things are tight!!!

In turn Ill pass on a bunch of flowers as know she loves them :)

so what ideas do you have, and no trolls please as lifes too short!!!

I've given people vouchers in queues before if they have the item too and I have more than one voucher. Tried it once in Tussaud's queue - got looked at like I was a loony! The people behind them took it from me though! What an odd reaction - would you like to get in half price? No - you might be tricking us and make us look silly at the counter!

No pleasing some people - others are more than happy, though (I only do this if the vouchers are short-dated and I know I won't use it before the date, or for entry somewhere I know I won't return to - there's a limit to my generosity!)
