  • I love this

I have been waiting for a chance to introduce myself to an old lady up the road and got the chance yesterday when she was pushing her heavy recycling box up the path using her walking stick turns out the neighbours who used to look out for her have moved away and she will be glad of odd bits of help; it is actually quite difficult to start being a helpful neighbour sometimes and I will be giving her a card with my details on and telling her that her son is welcome to meet me in case he worries (I hope) that she has struck up with a random stranger

If someone lets me out at a junction I try to let a car out at the next junction - sure it annoys the car behind me!

I am glad - after a slighty frosty comment on my thread yesterday that there is one in place!! I agree if we could all pay it forward the world would be a much better place, and yes some of it is manners - but these have very much been forgotten - maybe not so much in the country side villages - but in London = definitely!
Love reading the oldstyle board...always something to learn!
  • I read through thinking "I could do that" so I think it's a good idea

True about London, when DD came out of hospital day surgery we called into a mall to pick up her meds, with her walking gingerly - I held the mall door open for her, putting out my arm to help her, when a woman barged through the door nearly knocking us both over. 3 paces further on she fell off her heels and heard us say loudly in stereo "Wow, Instant Karma!"

  • I should probably keep an eye out for more opportunities for this sort of thing, haven't done anything 'nice' for ages :o

I have given people odd 20ps on the bus when they are short, and I let older/ill looking/pregnant people have my seat. Helped an old man who fell over in street last year...

It's so nice when people do things like this, they are only common kindness/courtesy really, but they make your day.

I had a car park parking attendant pass on a half-used ticket to me once so I didn't have to buy one, that was a real shock!
Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.

Never really thought about it but we do bits n' bobs for the old lady next door. OH does any heavy work for her and I leave kindling I've gathered beside the step most weeks (gathered from the land near us).

Mostly it's just what we call in the Scottish central belt "wee mindings". Bring the old lady a little cake most weeks, choccie biccies for the ferry crew who are great at giving everyone a hand onto the boat with shopping etc.

I'm firmly of the opinion that folk don't say enough nice things so if I see someone on the street with cool hair or a nice coat etc I'll happily tell them they look great. Easy to do in this wee town although some of the recent influx from south of the border do clutch their handbags like I'm going to mug them :rotfl:

Passed a free sofa onto someone on Tuesday, and found that she's been homeless since she was 14, and she has basically nothing. So have rummaged through our house and found blankets, side lights and contacted someone else to get some cutlery and crockery for her. Well, if I have it and someone else needs it, why not pass it on!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.
  • I always let people go in front of me in queues who have a couple of items, common courtesy.

Also, on buses, I find so often, people will move for those more in need of a seat, or sometimes those who are visibly disabled or infirm. really winds me up, and more often than not, it's older adults who are the worst for it, not youngsters.

In my job, I offer tech assistance to people for their mobile phones and other tech like laptops, but, my company (a large network) allow people who aren't their customers to use my services too, which is always a great feeling to me, when they ask "how much do we owe you?" and I tell them its free, gives me a warm glow :)

    CC limits £26000

    Long term CC debt £0

Total low rate loan debt £3000

    Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.
  • Reading back I realise my old lady example isn't random as I had been looking for a way to get introduced to her, but am happy to report that we now have a nice little rapport going and she remembers my name when I pass the house, and we have set up a signal for if she wants me to knock

Last night while working DH found a labrador out and about on his own at 10pm last night. Frightened no doubt from all the fireworks going off.

Currently, he is residing with us - and hopefully his owner will come forward to claim him. No dog warden on last night - so what do you do? Ring the Mrs and take the dog back to your house for the night :D
Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money :D
  • Whilst shopping in Mr T's yesterday i had a purse full of spend £40 get £5 off vouchers.
When my shopping came to £39.47 i ran off to grab a chocolate bar to hit the £40 mark.
After paying i passed on another voucher to the person in the queue behind me so they could get £5 off too. Partly for making them wait whilst i grabbed the chocolate bar and partly because i wont use the pursefull i have before they run out of time.
They were very grateful, and i love to help others out xx
