HTC Desire advice please
Hi,
I can get hold of a HTC desire that is less than a month old for £225 but it is locked to Orange. I've been told it will cost approx £25 to remedy this.
I intend to get a Tesco PAYG sim to go into it as the mobile internet for £2 a week suits what I need.
Do you think this is a reasonable price to pay or would I be better off getting one on a contract?
Thanks,
D

O2 have just started to offer the Desire (and the Samsung Galaxy s) for £320 on payg and reports seem to suggest that they're unlocked.
£225 isn't a bad price, but I've been told that the Orange branding software has done no favours to the phone. The only way to remove it is to root the phone and debrand it, but that will blow any guarantee you might have...0 -
Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
When you say "done no favours", what do you mean?
Presumably, once unlocked, I can shove any sim in (actually just ordered one from GiffGaff) and it will work fine - it'll just have the remnants of the Orange branded items on there which won't work anymore but which I can remove from the scenes etc?
Cheers,

From what I've read the Orange branding software replaces some HTC app's. But while the HTC stuff can't be seen it is in fact still on the phone (taking up space) and still running (taking memory) even though you can't access them. So you've less space on an Orange device than on a standard one. . .0
