new power outlet idea, does this sound ok?

Options
we recently had a cobi boiler central heating system fitted, this involved removing the existing electric imersion heater which was in a cupbord upstairs and then fitting the combi downstairs, the guys that fitted the combi put a junction box in the cupboard where the imersion was with the existing 2.5mm cable in one end and a new run of 2.5mm from that too the combi downstairs, which is on a 13amp switched outlet.
my question is,the main vedroom is nextdoor to the cupboard upstairs, and we want to put a wall hung tv up but dont want the cables all hanging down from it,so my plan was if possible to take another feed from the junction box in the cupboard and run 2.5mm cable to behind the tv and fit a single outlet socket so it looks neat, the combi boiler at present is on its own 16amp mcb in consumer unit nothing else is fed from it.

if this is not possible any suggestions would be great,as the pro's always know best.

cheers
stephen

What you are wanting to do is take a single spur off a radial circuit. The radial circuit is the one that goes CU>junction box>fused connection unit>combi. You can take a spur off a radial. Generally you would have a 20A mcb on a 2.5mm radial with sockets on (the mcb protects the cable, not the things plugged into the sockets!) but seeing as you only have a small potential load then the 16A is fine. Be sure to run cable in safe zones unless it's on the surface.

thanks for the reply thats a great help.

my cable run was going to be up the inside of the cupboard surface mounted from the junction box, into the loft, then down the inside of the stud wall for approx 500mm to where i want the new outlet to be.

    this sound ok

Sounds fine, just be sure that you come straight down in the stud wall, within the width of the socket, vertically, no diagonals or wobbly lines! If you go through any noggins then drill at half depth back, if you clip to uprights then be sure you're halfway back. That way they are the same distance from front/back and thus equally protected by depth.
