Tesco mobile spanked my !!!!!!
Hi, this is actually just a warning to anyone who is intending of using the tesco unlimited monthly contract, and i give you my experience. Like a fool i organised one of these for my daughter which (i know!...i know!) i am totally to blame for, anyway the unlimited isnt unlimited it is for 3000 minutes a month any network, which is on average an hour and a half a day of free time. They then tell you should you use those minutes up you will then be charged at there standard rate untill you reach there £90 cut of amount, so i thought well at least if she does abuse this phone then i will only be left with a £90 bill. But i ended up with over a £400 bill, and there excuse is that from the point at which the phone had reached the £90 maximum there is a standard4 hour delay before the phone is disconected and yes you guessed it she was using the phone continuosly for that time so i got billed for those 4 hours also which ended up being £250 for the calls in the 4 hours+£90 for the cut off+30 for the months useage+vat=pants pulled well and truly down!!! Any one elses experiences or advice would be nice...regards.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record - try Giffgaff
http://giffgaff.com/index/offer - it really is unlimited, plus it's prepay so there's no chance of this happening anyway.
£250 in 4 hours does work out at over £1/minute though, so something does sound amiss there.0 -
Every little helps0

A child/young person on a mobile phone for 90mins a day WOW, I wouldn't worry about financial implications,
I would worry about health risks.ANURADHA KOIRALA ??? go on throw it in google.0 -
The sales assistants must rub their hands in glee seeing a parent walk in with daughter/son in tow.
Thats a heck of a lot of time she's on her phone!
Just out of curiousity, how old is your daughter?
Tesco's PAYG is good at the moment isn't it? Last I knew they trebled any credit you added. Could be worth switching if Tesco will let you.0 -
As a "young person" myself I can't understand why more people don't use skype or other services which are free if both people using it. I suppose it is because they aren't paying the bill though0

Agree. The call quality is usually better on Skype as well.0

Was it glued to her face?
Who is she talking to?War does not determine who is right - only who is left.0 -
I appreciate that you came on here for sympathy over the fact that you got charged so much money for what you consider to be your daughter's misuse of her phone and Tesco's documented and clear charging policy, but I'm more interested in what you were thingking.
I take it, from the fact that you had to buy the phone and contract, that your daughter is of school age. She is, therefore, at school from 8:30 to about 3:30. That's 7 hours, plus another hour for travel. Let's presume that she spends time in the shower, putting makeup on and the like, which takes up another 2 hours (knowing what my kids are like). If we give her a good nights sleep, that takes up 8 hours so our total is now 18 hours.
An hour of homework seems reasonable, as does an hour (in total) to eat 3 meals per day. This brings our total up to 20 hours. She'll watch TV for 2 hours per day, so that leaves 2 hours free from the whole day.
You miscalculated when you said 90 mintes per day for the phone; it's 97 in a 31 day month or 100 in a 30 day one. That leaves 20 minutes free of her 24 hours.
When do you spend time with your children? In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
Never, ever give school children the ability to run up bills.
I feel sorry for you.
My partners ex husband bought a contract mobile for his daughter, he soon regretted it when she ran up a huge bill without even batting an eyelid."We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"0 -

A few years ago, my daughter tried to get me to act as guarantor for a contract mobile for her and using my bank account to pay the bill. Oh, how I laughed! If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button
