don't you think being able to declare youself 'fit to drive' once a year is a bit dangerous?
most people would report if their condition had deteriorated, but what about the ones that just want to keep driving?

Like pwales said, it doesn't work like that. My dad was banned from driving for medical reaons. He was mant to be banned for 18 months - he wa banned for almost 2 years because despite his illnes being completely under control, someone still believed he was a danger - they had no proof of this but still refused to allow him to drive.Sealed pot challenge #232. Everyone says I'm a safe driver and I even had a lesson with a driving instructor, who said I was a safer driver than his wife!Me transmitte sursum, caledoni0

This is something that's really been on my mind lately having just informed the DVLA of my disability (which actually happened 18 months ago, but it's taken me this long and 2 lots of surgery to admit to myself that it's a permanent problem!) and not heard back yet. I thought that it was usual for the DVLA to issue a shorter term licence, but not standard for them to revoke it completely! I am hoping to get back to driving ASAP, but need to get a left foot accelerator and an automatic car!0

Yes, an automatic would be really helpful - although when you ask to test drive one, they scratch their chins and make tsking sounds, as if you'd asked for a trip to the moon! Don't worry, you'll be able to order one, with no problem.Me transmitte sursum, caledoni0
