Licence taken away

Because of my disability the DVLA have taken away my licence and given me a yearly one, which has to be reviewed every year for now on. Three months before it expires I have to be reviewed. Does anyone know what form the review takes? e.g. Do I have to see a doc or do any tests?

Not meaning to pry but what sort of disablility do you have - i also wondered whether this was a surprise that came out of the blue or did you/someone contact the dvla with your knowledge.
Sorry i cant answer the original question - but i am interested to learn more about situations like this - incase it ever affects me.
Thankyou x0 -
I have a disability called Friedreichs Ataxia - a gentic condition passed on my both parents having the faulty gene (they are both carriers). My brother has the condition too, but he is 10 years younger than me. FA is a bit like MS, causing co-ordination, balance and degenerative problems. I was initally diagnosed with MS, but since my brother was diagnosed I was re-tested and finally told that I too have FA. It is rare - 0.5% of the population are carriers (if you think that 25% of the poulation carry the CF gene, you can see how rare it is). ANyway, I am now in a wheelchair, full-time, but can drive (its the walking bit I have a problem with).
I guess the DVLA just look at a medical book, and decide whether a condition is bad or not and say yes or no to them keeping their licence.Me transmitte sursum, caledoni0 -

ive got a 3year licence since my fall they will just ask for medical records to see if my condition has changed ....i am now on a automatic addaped licence they also took a few conditions/vehicals off my licence ...but left motorbike:rotfl:...ill be ok as long as i never have to stop at traffic lights:rotfl:.....mine is because of spinal cord damage......my cosultant was the one who got the dvla involved as part of my rehab was relearning to drive in an adapted car0

One of my niece's friends also has Friedreichs Ataxia, he is in a wheelchair and drives using hand controls and also has his license reviewed every so often, probabaly yearly.

I suffer from MS and i have a 3 year licience,,at renewal time it is not a problem,,jusst fill in a form and send back,,even if ur new licience has not arived at renewall time ,,you are still allowed to drive,,as they will be waiting on word from docs etc,,dont worry about it,,it will be ok0

So when you renew the licence at the specified time - do you fill out the form or does the doctor have to do it ?0

hi you tell them if there are changes in your condition ...if not they renew the licence...if there are any changes they will ask for more info from your doc....my biggest problem with it all was on my records it showed i had banged my head as well so it took a few letters back and forth to show there was no "real injury" just a bang..the bang to the head seamed more important to the dvla than not being able to use the pedals no moreSo when you renew the licence at the specified time - do you fill out the form or does the doctor have to do it ?0 -
Ah i see thank you - so if i understand it right , they send you a form and you sign yourself ok to drive - but if there are changes they would get medical clarification. Thats all a bit clearer now

Well I drive an automatic and haven't found any problems yet. My brother (who also has FA) drives a sports car (manual) and he drives fine. Incidently his licence is reviewed every 3 years - there doesn't seem to be any consistancy with the DVLA.Me transmitte sursum, caledoni0
