Sim card failed-please help

I have an old orange contract nokia 6300 which I had unlocked in Cyprus and use it there with the local network sim. Bought a sim from Asda so my cousin could use it whilst holidaying in the UK but when I put it in it showed this message Sim Card Failed. Please can someone tell me if it's because the reception where I live is pretty poor or is there another problem. Thanks for any advice.

No replies as yet. Can anyone help? Tried my current orange sim in it and that works so am I right assuming it will only work on the 2 networks? Thought when you paid to have it unlocked it would work with any network. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.0

The SIM may need activating. Have you called ASDA to enquire about this?If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button
