10 year limit to UK driving license fiasco - anyone have feedback

One of the questions you are asked when you take out motor insurance is 'Do you hold a valid UK driving licence?' If your licence is out of date it is not valid, therefore your insurance is not valid. Simple.
You can renew your photocard licence online if you have a fairly up to date passport. They just get a copy of your photo from the passport agency.
Unfortunately if your wife doesn't send her licence in she will probably get summonsed to court and the fine will be a lot more than £60. A sumons just comes out by first class post, not registered. I tell you this as I have just read a debate about this and I can assure you that is correct. If a sumons is not delivered, it is returned to the court and is then delivered personally.
