10 year limit to UK driving license fiasco - anyone have feedback
Ok so my wife was speeding, now has to send in license, upon checking it it ran out several months ago. Apparently the photo cards are only valid for 10 years (not the lifetime of old ones). we had no idea of this and have moved address twice since then so no reminders.
Is she likely to face probs from police as license out of date?
[Sd i be carrying the can!?]

Its the photocard that's out of date, not the licence. Just get a new one. Did she not notify her new address? That is more likely to cause more trouble!0

The expiry date is clearly printed on the license, and there gas been lots of coverage about this over the years.
Do a search. It's only the Photocard that's expired, not your wife's entitlement to drive.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

Pick up a D1 form from the post-office.. she should be ok since it's just the card that expired, not the license0

It's a £1000 fine for not updating your address by the way. Are you sure either of you should be driving?I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

The DVLA are going to love this.....
I've warned people time and time again about the photocard expiry scam (lets call it what it really is) and nobody ever bothers to listen.
If I remember correctly the DVLA will fine £500 for driving without a valid license.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I picked up a speeding ticket from the ever vigilant Suffolk Constabulary.Photo licence was two days out of date at time of offence.Glad I hadnt sent it off to DVLA as would have then be done for failure to produce.Sent off to plod and duly returned without a murmour.
Has now been sent off to Dvla.Wifes took 4 weeks to come back.
£20 each plus a fiver each for nice pics.And £60 to plod.0 -
It is no fiasco. The only fiasco is that those who are too stupid to follow the laws and 1) renew them and 2) move adresses etc are allowed a new one.0

surely you would have been fine if you had sent yours off as you cant be expected to stay at home until the licence is returned,0 -
Not according to the WPC who stopped me(mind you,she hadnt heard of the large town I reside in,even though it was on the same remote B road I was stopped on)0

Nice to see that 2 posters on this thread know that it is a licence in the UK, and not a license.0
