fees fees & more fees :s confused

Hi guys,

me and my friend are 2 weeks away from moving into rented property and the paperwork is being drawn up at the end of this week.

I enquired as to what the next steps were and have just recevied an email stating numerous fees that need to be paid, here is an extract of the email:

"The initial monies are a month's rent £450, bond £550 and tenancy agreement fee £88.13. I think the landord will be having an inventory done which he will pay for the make up of it and the check but as tenants you will have to pay for the check out which is payable up front and that is £76"

now i understand the months rent and bond, but what about the T.A fee and the inventory fee? are these common place?, this is the second place i have rented and i dont think i came across these fees the first time round.

Just curious to know if these are standard.

many thanks

Learning experience - always ask before viewing a property what the full fees will be. They haven't mentioned a tenancy renewal fee so ask them how much they are going to clobber you after the first 6 months contract is up...

fees for creating a lease or renewing a lease are completely illegal (In Scotland) I am unsure about the rest of the UK.

So don't get fooled into paying for those fees if they try it on.
