Ryanair - What can I take on board?

Options
I'm flying with Ryanair on Friday to Sweeden.

I don't want to be paying any charges so I have a couple of questions.

What can I take as baggage without having to pay anything?

Are their any other charges I should watch out for?

Thanks

Sam

a bag that is 55x40x20 off the top of my head. You can take anything as long as it hasn't been banned by the Government when you go through security. You can buy stuff in the departure lounge and also take that on board, but only if it fits into your one bag. I don't think you can take hot food on though.

The only fee you could get now that you've paid is if your bag is too big and they charge you £35 or whatever to put it in the hold, or if you lose your boarding card and get charged £40.

There's also a weight limit of 10kg on the one piece of hand luggage. Your on-line check-in print out needs to be in the format Ryanair states otherwise it will gladly fleece you £40 to print out another.

Although don't believe the scare stories about being charged if it doesn't scan. If you print out your boarding pass on A4 paper, b/w or monochrome, and it doesn't scan, you won't be charged for a new one.

This is the official Ryanair info from their website (hint hint... perhaps a better place to get the most accurate info?)
    CABIN BAGGAGE

Strictly one item of cabin baggage per passenger (excluding infants) weighing up to 10kg with maximum dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm is permitted. (handbag, briefcase, laptop, shop purchases, camera etc.) must be carried in your 1 permitted piece of cabin baggage.

Extra/oversized cabin baggage will be refused at the boarding gate, or where available, placed in the hold of the aircraft for a fee of £35/€35. If you are unsure, check at the Bag Drop desk before going through security.

Cabin baggage must contain no prohibited items click here for details.

WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CANCEL YOUR RESERVATION AND TO DENY YOU BOARDING IF YOU DO NOT COMPLY WITH THE CABIN BAGGAGE REQUIREMENTS

    CHECKED BAGGAGE

Each passenger may check in up to two checked bags upon payment of the applicable checked baggage fees by electing to purchase a checked baggage allowance of either 15 kilos or 20 kilos when make their initial booking. After the booking is made checked baggage can be added to a reservation via the Manage My Booking facility on http://www.ryanair.com/en/manage-!!!!!!!!!ing up to 4 hours before the scheduled flight departure time. The checked baggage fees are charged per person/per one way flight and are discounted when booked on-line. Higher fees apply if booked via a Ryanair call centre or at the airport and also for travel undertaken in the peak months of July or August. Fees may vary from time to time but it is the rates in force at the time you book and/or pay for your checked baggage allowance which apply.

See below for full details of our current Checked Baggage Fees.

    Fees Per person/per flight Online-Ryanair.com Call Centre/Airport
    15kg bag 20kg bag 15kg bag 20kg bag
    1st Bag £15/€15 £25/€25 £35/€35 £45/€45
    1st Bag - Peak - July & August £20/€20 £30/€30 £40/€40 £50/€50
    2nd Bag £35/€35* n/a £70/€70* n/a
    2nd Bag - Peak - July & August £40/€40 n/a £80/€80* n/a
*The 2nd checked bag can only be a 15kg bag

No pooling or sharing of baggage allowances is permitted, even within a party travelling on the same reservation. Pooling of an individual checked baggage allowance is not permitted even if you have two items of checked baggage (each item must be within its own prepaid weight allowance).

Any passenger exceeding their personal checked baggage allowance will be charged for excess baggage at the rate prevailing on the day of travel. This is currently £20/€20 per kilo (or local currency equivalent).

At airports with self-service kiosks, you must have paid any checked baggage fees and/or excess baggage charges and deposited your checked baggage at a bag drop desk no later than 40 minutes before scheduled departure time.

There is no checked/hand baggage allowance for infants. However, one fully collapsible pushchair per child may be carried free of charge. Additional infant equipment such as car/booster seats and travel cots may be carried in addition to your personal checked baggage allowance. Infant equipment up to a maximum of 20kilos (car/booster seats and travel cots) booked online is charged at the rate of £10/€10 per item/per one way flight or at the airport or through a Ryanair call centre, the higher rate of £20/€20per item/per one way flight will apply. Any infant equipment weighing over the 20 kilos allowance will be charged for the excess at the applicable excess baggage rate per kilo.

Mobility equipment is carried free of charge.

Sporting or musical equipment including but not limited to large fishing rods, golf clubs, bicycles, scooters, fencing equipment, surfboards, bodyboards, snowboards and skis and large musical instruments including but not limited to harps, double bass and drums are inherently unsuitable for carriage by airlines operating fast turnarounds such as Ryanair. However, these items may be carried in the hold of the aircraft in addition to your personal checked baggage allowance up to a limit of 20 kilos per item upon payment of a discounted online fee of £40/€40 per item, per one way flight. If the item is purchased at the airport or through a Ryanair call centre a higher fee of £50/€50 per item/per one way flight will apply). Any sporting and musical item weighing over the 20 kilos allowance will be charged for the excess at the applicable excess baggage rate per kilo.

*Bicycles - MUST be contained in a protective box or bag.

Smaller musical items such as a guitar, violin or viola which exceed our cabin baggage dimensions may be carried in the cabin if a seat for it has been reserved and the appropriate fare paid. There is no checked or cabin baggage allowance associated with the purchase of an extra seat.

To book an extra seat for an item the word "ITEM SEAT" must be entered as the surname and "EXTRA" must be entered at the first name. EXTRA ITEM SEAT will then be displayed on the reservation and online boarding pass. The accompanying passenger's travel document details must be entered during the online check- in process.

For health and safety reasons Ryanair does not accept for carriage any individual item exceeding 32 kilos or with combined dimensions of more than 81cms (height), 119cms (width) and 119cms (depth). This weight limit does not apply to mobility equipment.

Ryanair does not accept responsibility for unsuitably packed, perishable, damaged, or fragile baggage or for cosmetic damage to the exterior of baggage (e.g. scratches, stains, soiling, dents etc) resulting from normal wear and tear.

See paragraph below headed 'Prohibited Articles' for items not permitted in the cabin and/or aircraft hold.
