I would like to know in addition to the poll results, if people who are returning them or keeping them live in what they would consider to be a strong or weak reception area. Ideally this is based on a number of other phones, although if you changed network for the iPhone I realise this is difficult to gauge.
RE the SPAM, yes it's annoying. I wonder if it's automated and if anything can be done (i.e. those really annoying type the verification code here for new users with few posts.) I can't believe people buy crap that's spammed on message boards with poor English and often no relevance to the thread.0 -

Keeping it. I use it in various areas (North of England and southern Scotland), and it reliably gets a signal in areas where my older phones did not - weird eh? I can only imagine that Apple were right in their claim that the external antenna is actually more sensitive than internal ones (that seems pretty logical don't you think?). I don't use a rubber case, just a leather sleeve (I take the phone out to use it), and I do not drop calls. This is just my own real-world experience though - clearly some people have different experiences, although I'm not sure how many in the UK are actually dropping calls etc. Most of the youtube videos etc seem to be American and apparently AT&T's network infrastructure is different from European network. This was apparently an issue right from Apple's first iPhone: http://www.macrumors.com/2010/07/19/behind-the-scenes-of-the-apple-atandt-relationship/The report points to Apple's choice of Infineon for the cellular communication hardware in the original iPhone as an example of the tensions between the two companies. Infineon had traditionally been focused on the European market where cellular towers are located more closely together than they typically are in the U.S. But when AT&T asked Apple to work together on making Infineon's hardware in the iPhone work better with AT&T's U.S.-style cell site configurations, Apple reportedly declined, saying "No, you resolve them. They're not our problem. They're your problem
To me this suggests that the problems may be more USA-focused - might explain why I don't seem to be affected?
The battery life is much better than earlier iPhones. The rest of the functionality (media player, high pixel density display) is great too.0 -
I actually hope that the publicity this has received really does mean that phone manufacturers take the receiver sensitivity issue seriously.
From reading Andandtech's forums it seems that the iPhone4 has one of the best receiver sensitivity out there, all the way down to -120dBm. I've NEVER seen another phone able to do that. This probably explains why you are seeing a signal where other phones did not.
It is just a shame there is this issue otherwise it would be the perfect antenna design.
Having used AT&T in the states, I would agree. It's crap.0 -
Returned as i was getting the 1 finger 30sec to no service here on o2.
Astonishing to see
Should of been a superb phone (i would still have mine if it wasnt for the above) but sadly let down by a poorly designed antenna.
Hopefully they sort it with a new revised version in the autumn and i might be back :cool:0 -
Mines a work phone, so I couldn't return it, but in a remote area of County Durham, where my company has a depot, we can get a signal, whereas any other phone cannot get a signal from Orange.
In fact Orange tell us we shouldn't be able to get a signal at all, so frankly I can't see what any of the fuss is about. Yeah at this site we can use the death grip and eventually get no signal, but guess what, calls still come through and we have only had a single dropped call between 20 odd of us.
I honestly think this is purely hype by the media and has been blown out of all proportion. I will admit we have had to return one due to the glue issue, so to be fair I am sure that there are some quality control issues with some batches, probably due to Apple putting far too big a rush on the factories to get the stock to the shops, but this was the same with the first generation of the iPod Mini.
So what am I saying, well I guess if you have one with some quality control issues, like the glue problem, then sure take it back, but otherwise, be happy, just like with any other phone!0 -
Quick bump to see if a few more will want to vote on this.0
