Hi Rik, Thank you for all your kind help.

The logs seem to be clear now and I found this advice...

If you are on a wireless connection, right click on that and go to properties. If you are on a wired connection right click Local Area Connection and go to properties. Find Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the list, single left click it so it is highlighted and click properties. Ensure that there is a blob in Obtain DNS Server address automatically.

There seemed to be an un authorised setting in there, maybe set by the malware?

I have reset it and its now connecting. 1st stop MS SE download :-)

Malwarebytes is still well out of date

(they must be VERY slow at updating that manual update)

Id recommend another update until it wont update no more then another scan then we shall run something else (Better to be safe than sorry)

I would recommend NOT installing another anti virus until we know its clean
