AVGs broken
Use the 32 bit AVG removal tool

Dont worry about an av for now. After the infections sorted, THEN you can sort out an av (AVAST, AVIRA or MSE):idea:0 -
Is there a way of manually updating malwarebytes without being able to connect to the internet?0

Is there a way of manually updating malwarebytes without being able to connect to the internet?
well, youd have to connect to the net using 'a' computer (You have another at hand?)
Is it failing to connect?
Try rebooting, keep pressing F8 and try updating in SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING:idea:0 -
Not able to connect in safe mode. Getting an error "MBAM_ERROR_UPDATING (12007, 0,WinHttpSendRequest)
As you mentioned I do have another PC here so is there anywayof getting the latest databases onto a memory stick then onto the laptop please?0 -
Try a couple of things first
Download HostsXpert
http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Hoster-Download-27041.html
and then follow the below steps.
* Unzip HostsXpert.zip
* It will create a folder named HostsXpert in whatever folder you extract it to.
* Run HostsXpert.exe by double clicking on it.
* click the Make Writeable? button.
* click Restore Microsoft's Hosts File and then click OK.
* Click the X to exit the program
.............................................................
Also run 'fix.exe'
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/reg/antivirus-vista-2010/FixExe.reg
if that fails then the database is here ~
http://mbam.malwarebytes.org/database/mbam-rules.exe
Put it onto your infected computer and run it. It will auto update (check by seeing what the database version is when you open malwarebytes):idea:0 -
Hi RIK,
HostsXpert cannot create file c:windows/system32/DRIVERS/ETC/hosts
The manual running of the update isnt finding anything.
Sorry RIK this is a pain!
Im not sure how to add the 2nd option "fix.exe"?0 -
Just download the fix.exe file and double click to run it (youll hardly notice a change, unless it asks about changing registries)
As for hosts ~
Whilst pressing the SHIFT key, RIGHT CLICK the mouse on the hosts exe file and select RUN AS (admin):idea:0 -
Thank you for being so patient Rik.
The fix.exe is now onboard (didnt like Opera browser!)
HostsXpert sorted.
Still unable to force the update on malwarebytes.
Sorry0 -
No need to be sorry. Its not your fault
I await the results of your newly updated malwarebytes scan:idea:0
