We've never been there but have heard good reports.
I've only been there the once, but it is a nice city, although can get stifingly hot in the summer (I think it's around 35/36C atm), and I personally want to live by the coast, wherever I end up living, as I always have here in England (most likely in the Barcelona area tbh).0 -
my hubby is Scottish and I'm from Belarus. got married 5 years ago after he flooded my room and it's definitely more fun to be from different countries :rotfl:Jan GC £66,82/100 Jan NSD 17/31; Feb GC £71,67/100 Feb NSD 14/28;Mar GC £81,82/100 Mar NSD 16/31;Apr GC £99,54/100 Apr NSD 14/30; May GC £127,20/100 May NSD 12/31; June GC £70,05/100 June NSD 17/30; July GC £47,52/100 NSD 05/310

Very interesting reading these posts.

Just out of curiousity, or nosyness lol, but did any of you have trouble with the language barrier, or could your partner if foreign, or if your foreign your partner speak any english so you could at least have has some sort of comunication.
To chicoingles..., can you speak Spanish?, or is your G/F teaching you, and can she talk english well.0 -
marris,
I'm curious - how did he flood your room? Was it some sort of cunning ploy to snare you? LOL"Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" (Douglas Adams)0 -

Wow! Your English is fantastic btw:) (Well, yeah, having a husband from the country does certainly help:P, I know:P) What is life like in Scotland? (I've never been...I'm at the other end of the country, near Brighton to be exact:P) Do you think you'll ever go back to Belarus to live?0 -
jakem,
I personally find culture differences as opposed to language to be a difficulty. I lived in Japan a long time so I am well attuned with Japanese culture, however when we moved here 2 years ago it was my husbands first time in Europe. However, through discussion and an element of "give and take" its never led to any major difficulties!"Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" I can speak Spanish yes (I did my degree in Spanish and Italian), and she did her degree in English, and is an English teacher now, and she has as good a English accent as I do, so we're very lucky. I also speak some Catalan (which is her other native tongue, although she always uses Spanish at home), intermediate level French and very, very basic Polish.0 -
Another one with a Japanese partner but it's not obvious to most as she's white, blonde, blue-eyed and her English is very good ... albeit with an accent that most people can't place because of her colouring!0

Cheers for the replies, as I was curious, reason being is I have a friend who went on holiday to Turkey 12 years ago, met someone, in a space of a few months got married.
He couldnt speak english, well the odd word, and she couldnt speak turkish lol, so I couldnt get my head round what attracted them to each other, as I'm thinking, surely someone has to talk to the other one lol.
But, 12 years on they are still together, he speaks fantastic english, with a Turkish accent, and she can talk quite good turkish, with a london accent.:D0
