- Avira - A light powerful and antivirus the only downside is that it gives an annoying popup every few updates to upgrade to the paid version. Download: here
- Avast - A comprehensive antivirus with lots of extra protection modules but uses uses more system resources. Download here
- Microsoft Security essentials - A good antivirus that is light with reasonable virus detection rates. Download here
- AVG - A good antivirus with OK detection rates and medium usage of system resources. Download here
- Comodo Internet security - A comprehensive security solution including a light antivirus, a firewall that is good and the powerful Defense+ module that monitors programs actions and alerts the user whether to block or allow the action. Download here
- Immunet - A very light antivirus which uses very little system resources. It uses cloud technology and harnesses the power of the community to create a powerful antivirus here.
- Clamav- A very light antivirus which uses very little system resources it now has immunet built in. It uses cloud technology and harnesses the power of the community to create a powerful antivirus here.

As a start he could read the last one or two pages...
And if this thread is so out of date, why is it a sticky?
Ok, to stay on-topic, install Avira and don't use an Administrator account for all online stuff and you'll not need [STRIKE]snakeoil[/STRIKE] a firewall. :whistle:0 -
thanks all will take a look at avira maybe. I knew you'd all help me out!!0

Let's tip the balance towards: avira with malwarebytes!0

I use these which work together really well:
Avira Anti-Vir
Comodo Firewall (with Defense+ turned off)
Spybot - Search & Destroy
SpywareBlaster
MalwareBytes
Secunia PSI0 -
thanks again!0
