Simple question for clever folk, I hope?

If I buy a 2nd hand iphone 3g from my mate and I insert my current pay as you go sim card, will it work? Or are things never as simple as that?

Not if it is not a iphone micro sim it won't, they say it is because it all the space they had left some of us more cynical people will say it was to stop people breaking their exclusivity deal with providers that make them lots of money and stop an open market.

It's only the iphone4 that takes a micro sim, the 3g and the 3gs both take regular sims.

If you want to put a regular sim in an iphone4 you will need to cut it to size first. I'm thinking of getting a sim cutter from http://www.cutmysim.com/ as I'm thinking of getting a sim free iphone 4 and an ipad but my current sim is standard sized and the availability of micro sims is not yet very good. As more and more phones start to adopt the micro sim things should hopefully change.

The main thing to be wary of is a network locked iphone that can only be used on a specific network.

I got a 3G SIM from Argos on 02 for about £1 I think.. works in my iPhone.
