lorriellah - I tried finding other cleaning jobs, but sexual discrimination kept getting in the way. They all kept wanting women. It's discrimination against both women and men. They picture women as the housewife type, and thus suitable for cleaning jobs, and thus, men don't get a chance. It may not be like that round your area, but our town is a forgotten town.

The supermarket I worked in had an all male cleaning team, whenever anyone left they would be replaced with another bloke. Broaden your search for cleaning jobs as whilst there may be lots of all female teams there are also plenty of all male ones.

I'm sorry and no offense but nobody can't get a job.

If you ask me, you're giving up a little too easily.
  • paulwf - I know there are cleaning jobs that have male cleaners and vice versa. My Sainsburys and Tesco has an even mix between them. As in both are 50/50 with male/female cleaners, but sadly, none are offering any jobs, even till work.

bigdavecox90 - that's where you're wrong. I haven't given up. I will never give up. There just isn't any jobs round here that I can do. My main area of experience is in computing, building, repairing that sort of thing with a BTEC Level 2 at Distinction Grade under my belt amongst many other IT qualifications. I even have a qualification for Writing Books. Unless I get a qualification in Forklift or HGV/LGV driving, I don't stand a chance.

In our town, we have 2 major distribution centres. One for Wilkinsons, and one for B&Q. The B&Q one is currently being powered by a wind turbine. However, neither have any jobs going suitable for me. There are a few food production factories, but they mainly employ through slave labour agencies.

Yes, I agree. It's far too easy to get certain benefits. When it comes to DLA, it's easy to get the basic wages from it, but to get the higher rates, it's not so easy. Even my dad who is practically a cripple can only get low rate care and high rate mobility.

You read in the papers on an almost daily basis people living off benefits rather than working, and although I may fit in that criteria, I've been brought up with higher morals. I'd rather be financially worse off in a job, than living comfortably on benefits.

Delivering papers in a morning which is basically 1 hour each morning at no more than national minimum wage, is a job and wages paid straight into bank accounts, the Jobcentre and Department of Work and Pensions don't class it as a job, so it doesn't affect your benefits.

p.s. I don't deliver to any place that requires going up a flight of stairs. The most would probably be 3 steps to drop off a few papers to a hotel.

DLA isn't easy to get at the lower end of things...I was turned down because i could occasionally make a meal...
  • I've found that with DLA that have a limit on how many they let on. Even if you qualify, they'll still turn you down. That's why I ended up going through a tribunal to get mine renewed.
  • If you have a qualification in IT then surely you can get a job as a remote helpdesk technician?

the thing is that is getting my back up is saying you cant work, or you cant find work, BUT YOU ARE WORKING!!!!!! you are delivering papers... and getting £200 a month for it...so you are capable of work... so the incapacity goes right out the window in my eyes..

my step father had to finsh work due to re-acurring back problems, he is on umpteen tablets a day, and is going back into hopsital for ANOTHER operation on his discs etc... but yet they are saying he cant claim any benefits, as he is capable of some sort of work..

people like make me sick to be honest.... as you can work, you are working, and are spoiling it for the genuine disabled people who are being tarred with the same brush.....

Do the honest thing and stop claiming now as you are not inititled to it..... increase your paper round..... deliver flyers.... get a tele-sales job....

The system really not fair, my nephew has severe learning difficulty but my sister can only get the low rate because he can WALK! But it is constant daily battle for her. It really make me sick to my stomach how the system is so unfair!

    Not by a longshot.
  • yes, I agree it is sickening, but as we all need money for one thing or another, I'm having to accept money where I can. Also, I will repeat, delivering papers is not classed as a job in the eyes of DWP and JC. When both of them asked me if I was working, and I told them that I deliver papers each morning, they responded by saying that I was unemployed then.

I would gladly give up my benefits if I could get a job.

I just did a search on the DirectGov website which now handles the JC job listings. Can't find any suitable, and anything suitable is too far away. The only ones nearer to home are through slave labour agencies.
