Ask how long to get the printed photo's as some togs can take 2 years, something about getting them from new zealand.
Some togs just put them on CD which is quite good. Ask them if they let you have all of them rather than only their edited ones. should get about 450

I always leave a bit of negotiating room in my wedding prices, usually quote cheaper for family/ friends. :)
Very rarely done a wedding with no haggling over price of my work- most people leave booking a photographer to last minute in my experience!
Makes it much nicer too- if someone uncomfortably 'settles' for a price they think is high, they're more open to criticism of the photos in the end. If they've felt they made a good deal, they're usually nicer!

Ask whether you get the rights to the photos (i.e. negatives if they are using film or original high resolution images on CD if digital). This means you can arrange your own prints afterwards. If not, you are tied to their reprint prices. However, photographers that give you the rights will obviously be more expensive.

If you do have to pay their prices for reprints, check what prints/albums are included in the price. If you get lots of photos included, you might not worry about not having the rights as you'll only pay for a few reprints anyway.

Sammy - I'm hoping a friend who's a part-time photographer will do mine but I'm going to look around generally as well. I'm getting married in Chester so was considering finding somebased in that area as in the interests of cost cutting I'm not bothered about them covering the evening party or me getting ready beforehand - would only be the few daytime hours for the ceremony itself. Let me know how you get on - maybe we can compare notes :)

ohh your getting married in chester zoo how lovely- i was there on friday!
im scared about the photography coz you only do it once- so it has to be right- and so many horror stories!
don't want to spend loads, but want good quality
don't mind about speeches being in the photos- haven't decided about the getting ready before hand- but would only be for me not my hubby to be

well met with the photographer- really like his style
asked him all the questions that have been suggested on here and other boards- but he wouldn't budge on the price- but would offer me a package if i booked the videographer with them too (they do photography, videography and disco) videography is £600
they would do the videography and photography for £1400- with extra copies of dvds thrown in
like them- but its well above my budget. only wanted videography if can get really cheap
but can't justify spending £900 on a photographer
    will have to keep looking

Aw, I'm sorry you didn't get the price you wanted. We're meeting with a potential photographer on Tuesday, and I'm going to try the same. My first choice was £1950 with no photos or albums, and I don't think we could get him to our budget of about £500 :(

The one we're meeting with is £695 for whole day coverage, no albums, but photos on CD or memory stick. More reasonable, but his photos are nothing like the expensive guy!

Anyhow, there are loads of photographers out there, and I hope you find the one that's right for you!
