Right To Haggle

I never haggle in shops because I'm worried that they'll refuse to negotiate the price and I'll look like an idiot, lol. Are shops generally receptive to a bit of haggling? Just asking what their best offer is?0

I usually dont do it with small purchases.
But if i were making a big purchase, especially if there were another retailer who was cheaper/offering the same, i would ask them if thats the best price. If they say yes i would ask if they were willing to offer a discount. If they said no i'd ask if they were willing to offer any "freebies"
I'm cheeky like that though. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

I always haggle, because I don't mind if they think I'm an idiot, as I'll stilll have more of my money.0 -
You will get 10% off in a lot of places just by asking, I got 10% off shoes from an outdoor shop (albeit I was buying 2 pairs and the bill was well over a hundred) they were not for offering anything as they were apparently "new" lines, I told them ok thats fine your loosing a sale here and they said they do discounts for local club members, bingo, 10% not even in a club but they didnt care.
They got the sale, I got 10% off, not a lot but a worthwhile saving!0 -

Depends what kind of shop it is and who you're haggling with. You'll have most success with independent stores, particularly if you're talking to the manager. It's pretty much expected to haggle in somewhere like an antique shop or flea market. You'll get 10% off just by asking "what's your best price?". You might get more if you're persistent (try being funny, not rude or demanding!). Electrical goods are good to haggle over (but not with the sales monkey in Comet) as is anything with a bit of damage. You have the right to haggle, but the merchant has the right to remain silent in response.0
