I dont know if its the same in england but here in scotland your parents income is taken into consideration if you live with them OR if you have lived with them within the past x years (i'm sure its either 3 or 5 but i cant remember precisely).
If your parents household income exceeds x amount, then your entitlement would be cut or possibly non-existent.
And its been that way for at least the past 9 years that i know of.
As for the website, it would depend on the way the website was set up. If it was a calculator to check how much you could be entitled to, then doesnt really have any bearing as they are just to be used as guides and the final amount wont actually be decided until the application is submitted and reviewed. You keep using that word. yes i believe when i went a few years ago the means test had the following results
Total Household (including even part time by student) income
<£19,999.99 = £30 per week
£20,000.00 - £24,999.99 = £20 per week
£25,000.00 - £29,999.99 = £10 per week
£30,000.00< = £zilch/nada
The method of means testing changed a lot (i remember looking to see if i was eligable and i was, until they updated the rules and rather than the limits altering, the method altered changing how they calculated our income and so i lost out AFAICR).Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -

ema is normally means tested as my daughter found out on her last course , she couldn't claim it because we earn too much but she has just started an e2e course where different rules apply
http://www.ema-applications.org/how%20much.html
this is exactly what the direct gov website was still saying on the 7th July and what the college told her all along0 -
Would she have been eligible for payments after 28th June if she had applied earlier? If so, that does change things, and there may be scope for backdating due to misinformation. I am not up on the rules of EMA, but for most benefits misinformation from a govt source would be grounds for backdating. You would need to check if this is the same for EMA - your MP would be able to get this information for you.
again this is where I am being giving conflicting advice
I found some guidance notes online which said she wouldn't be yet the man I spoke to at the ema said if she'd got the form signed before the 28th she would still be entitiled to it0 -
