I have heard the 3g is slow on v4.0.x so prob best to use v3.x i guess. I'd try and get a 3gs if i could not afford the 4 as it's a lot faster than the 3 and happily runs v4.0.x

I'd imagine surfing on 2g must be painful as lots of places don't have edge, only gprs.

i would keep the £150 safe and add to it as and when i could until got enough to buy 3gs.
my missus got a 3g on orange and since upgrading to ios4.0 it is painfully slow.

A 3g can be downgraded to 3.1.3 without much technical know-how, there are plenty of guides around to help if you were to decide iOS 4 was too slow. I used a 3g on iOS4 for a while as a spare phone , and it was slower than my 3gs, but not unreasonably so.

To the OP, go ahead if your budget is fixed at £150, you will find it a significant improvement to your 2g, if you think you can raise another £100 then go for a 3gs.

  • OP, have you looked into how much you could sell your 2G for? Would selling your 2G first give you the budget to stretch to a 3GS?
In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move.
