Is it me or don't we seem to be getting twice yearly increases from BT now, April and October. I thought the minimum charge last went up in April.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

So I had finally had it with BT and called up today to cancel. Friendly Scotsman offered to boost my broadband to option 2 (40 thinggies a month instead of 10 I think, good as son plays awful online games), for one year's discounted rate of £13.49. Also offered me a year's option 3 on my landline for 13.78 a month all included. Added on £1.49 mobile saver as can't train family to stick to their mobiles for mobile calls (though they are getting better...) by my calculation this will save me more than £100 a year and is pretty competitive. I also get increased broadband speed and a new more powerful router for wifi. Now I just have to remember to duck out of it all in a year's time when the discounted rates lapse...Friendly Scotsman promised me they'd send a letter a month ahead of time warning me. We shall see!
I think the lesson is they're getting more like mobile phone companies and will discount if you threaten to leave.0 -
The increases must have been planned well beforehand but, clearly, the 9.3% pay award to staff has got to be paid for somehow.

The buck stops with the punters.
9.3% pay award over 39 months unlike the board who get mega bucks every yearIn giving

I notice the BBC news article states:
BT said it estimates the impact of the changes will be just 1p a day, because its average customer makes only 80 seconds of daytime calls each day, and more than half subscribe to inclusive packages.
Does anyone know if the 80 seconds was based on the old or new BT definition of what day times was - before or after BT put the clocks back to 7.00pm?
I was badly hit by the BT change to day time hours
For this and a lot of others reasons that all happened over the last year I am leaving BT who I have been with on my current contract since 1996.0
