Sky have recently stopped the use of indirect codes on their system and you're tied into paying for a tv package to use their broadband or phone service.
People also need to remember the looming VAT rise to 20% when comparing companies.0 -

On the other hand, by committing to a 12 month contract, some Sky customers can benefit from a £2.50 per month reduction in the price of "Sky Broadband Unlimited"; but then, we don't know if Sky will follow now or in the near future with price changes to line rental and calls.
In reality, I think savvy consumers need to put aside the "marketing soundbites" and do the calculations thoroughly themselves, based on their own package requirements.0 -

Surely these increases must have some effect on the indirect suppliers like 18185?? Unless the connection charge is set by Ofcom??
Just working it out, a 15 minute call between 7am and 7pm on a weekday using BT,WILL BE OVER £1!!! ( vs 18185 charge of 5p.)0 -
.. in fact any daytime call over four and half minutes would be cheaper from a BT PAYPHONE than a BT landline (if you can still find one, that is). 20 minutes from a payphone is 40p. 20 minutes daytime from a BT landline will be almost £1.40! (although 18866/18185 etc is much easier than a walk down the road of course).0

And someone using BT but instantly hitting a 1571 'answering service' when the number they're calling is engaged will be charged 17.3p!
A very good reason to DUMP 1571... in fact any daytime call over four and half minutes would be cheaper from a BT PAYPHONE than a BT landline (if you can still find one, that is). 20 minutes from a payphone is 40p. 20 minutes daytime from a BT landline will be almost £1.40! Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I notice on the line rental saver deal if you currently get a discount for paper-free billing, this will stop .0

Sky now sell telephone and broadband without the requirement of a Sky TV subscription.

I wasn't aware of that thanks for the link.0 -
I recently received notification from BT that my rolling contract was due to renew in August. I had decided to stay put as I am happy with the Unlimited plan at £4.99/month, it suits my needs.
Having seen this thread today I decided to call and come out of the rolling contract and swallow the rise until I could find something better.
I was offered line rental at £10.04/month (after paperless discount) and get to continue my unlimited at £4.99/month but must stay on rolling contract. Fine by me.0 -
Is it me or don't we seem to be getting twice yearly increases from BT now, April and October. I thought the minimum charge last went up in April.0
