I've been crying - Bloomin onions

I had one for a few years, but never really found it helped. Maybe I was using it wrong, but we threw it out when we moved earlier this year, so I'll never know now0

I am also a contact lens wearer and never have problems cutting onions when I have my lenses in.
Last weekend, however,I started chopping onions, forgetting that I was wearing my glasses for a change and within a few seconds I had tears streaming down my face and I could hardly see what i was doing.
That will teach me to only prepare onions when I have my contact lenses in.0 -
I breathe through my mouth when chopping, AND wait till the last second before chopping the bottom bit off. Seems to work for me (usually).

I think if you don't breath the 'fumes' up your nose then your eyes don't water. This usually works for me.
And the contact lenses thing - thank god! I thought it was only me.
PS Don't wear lenses any more. My eyes miraculously improved once I hit 40.
You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.
Oi you lot - pleaseGIVE BLOOD
- you never know when you and yours might need it back! 67 pints so far.

I used to wear swimming goggles whilst chopping onions to stop my eyes watering. Now I just sorta squint and do it quickly!Nemmer Nossage :rotfl: :j

Ive got one of them. It cost 7.99 and tbh I dont think its that fantastic. I wouldnt have bought had I known how rubbish it was going to be.0 -
I don't think you need a steel bar......When I've been cooking with garlic and onions I run the cold tap while rubbing my fingers on our stainless steel sink and it gets rid of the smell.

I agree with the other contact lens wearers. Certainly not a job to do with glasses on!
Mind you, I wouldn't want to do it without - I'd probably lose bits of finger as well!!!!!0
