How to haggle for a car!

Right mse's we are going to buy a used car 07 plate, the garage which has the car we like is only 1 mile away & we've done a bit of research & it appears to be the cheapest around & with only 26k on the clock!
But I don't want to pay the asking price
We have saved a lot of money up & would like to put my car in for part-ex (probably worth £300).
Now I need some advice about how would you go about it & which strategies should I use to get the maximum off the price? I was thinking of going in cards on the table & see what he could do for me! It's nearing the end of the month & sales people need their commision & I don't mind being cheeky!
How would you play it:p

Make an offer 10% below the book value (not the ticket price) take it from there. When you don't think they'll drop any more, ask for extras-mats-full tank- spare plip key-etcThis is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

How do find what the list price of a car is worth?0
-
Ask the dealer what his best price is, make a note of it, then say you have some more cars to look at, walk away.
Leave the dealer your phone number, I bet he/she will ring you with a better deal.
Sell your own car privately, you will in reality get nothing from the dealer for it, he/she will just lose it in the valuation.0 -
Do your own homework.
You've already said its the cheapest around with that mileage, so cant see them knocking any off.
When people used to travel quite a distance to see our cars, we'd say "well you havent come this far cos its expensive" :P0 -

Parkers guide in supermarket gives a ball park figure. Best is Glasses guide but you'd need to know someone in the trade. Or google for a value. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -
I know some people slate them but there are stories of webuyanycar giving higher than trade in prices for certain cars.
My last car (BMW Z4) they quoted a terrible price - approx £2k below trade in, but for my current car (Audi A4) they quoted the same as a private sale.
Costs nothing to get a quote online and I read somewhere not to declare any marks scrapes etc online because if you do the online price reflects it and when you visit the premises they reduce the price further. Apparently, get your online price as high as possible.
Costs nothing and you might get more than the £300 your trade in value is.
Keen photographer with sales in the UK and abroad.
Willing to offer advice on camera equipment and photography if i can!0 -

Sometimes, they reduce the online price anyway. I was quoted £200 online for my almera, I declared every scratch. They offered me £50 in person
Make sure webuyanycar isn't your last resort and you can walk away, I stupidly assumed the online quite would be accurate, printed it off and took the car down the day its tax and MOT ran out. I was pretty much stuck with what they offered me. Of course I was young and naive (I'm still young, hopefully less naive).0 -

I think the point is that the employees are supposed to knock off a certain % off the online figure. So if you declare all the marks then the computer knocks a load off but then the real person also knocks his % off as well. If you don't declare anything then the computer gives you a high figure leaving you more room for the real person to knock off.0 -
And there are some places that will not drop the asking price by £1.
You could walk away and I must admit the haggle is 1/2 the fun, but the right car at the right price is just that, just try them but don't forget the bottom line is what mattersI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

We dont drop our prices at all. As our prices are our bottom prices! We pay enough money everyyear to advertise on autotrader website, so by having our prices keen, it gets our cars at the top of peaoples searches.
Some places will know a gran off and you're thinking you're getting a good deal. but its the final price or the price to change that matters.0
