Higher education?

I work full time and am bankrupt. Can anyone tell me if I start a higher eduication course, which is expensive, can I claim these expences as part of my SOA? I am on an IPA and in negotiations with the OR about the amounts (he has changed his mind on what will be allowed and hiked the amounts up). I cant afford the fees out of my current excess.

I was not allowed to 'claim' my Access course fees as part of my SOA and had to come out of my surplus. I'm not sure if that was the norm though, you can never tell can you.0

Regrettably, I would say with 99% certainty that you couldn't, although as previously mentioned, there's no harm in having a roll of the dice. Bear in mind that any change to your IPA requires the OR to go before a court and formally request it, so asking for the opportunity to go on a course would probably not be a legitimate option as it is technically deemed a "luxury" unless you can realistically prove it's necessary to maintain your income.
fingers crossed for you anyway0 -

slight correctionWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0 -
Sorry to ask this - but "higher education" is different to being a student at a university isn't it?
In other words you are allowed to be a student in B/R but are almost certainly not allowed to pay for "higher education"
However as no 2 OR's are the same - all we can hope is that Darnit is allowed to pay for the "course" on the SOA0 -
Have you looked into options such as learner support from your college? i was struggling with money and altough i did not met the intial critera to get the fees paid in full i did apeal on the grounds of struggling finacially. i got half of the course fees paid and help with child care.
Other options may be to look into sponserships, or other routes that may bring in money while you study.0 -
If you haven't taken a higher education course before you can get student finance which according to this thread: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2596543
you will allowed to keep and use for pay for your course.
If you are looking into further education (below degree level) the funding is different but you may be able to get grants to help pay for books etc, and depending on your circumstances you may get your fees waived. Not entirely sure how it works with bankruptcy though.0 -

Didn't someone ask the same thing recently about a PhD and got told they can put the fees down?

Thanks Trom,
So "Higher Education" is University.
And is "Further Education" College?
I think it might be obvious that I never went to either...0 -
Now this is completely off topic and I do apologise.
My daughter wants to go to University and as far as she's concerned it has to be Cardiff.
Obviously that may or may not happen.
And you are allowed to pick 5 Universities.
Could she apply for say 3 courses at Cardiff and 2 with other Universities - to put the odds in her favour?0
