Student wanting to go bankrupt

Can anybody advise me as to whether I can still receive maintenance grant if I decide to go bankrupt or will they take that money from me. Thank you.

It probably be better to post this on the student forum as there are people on there who work for student finance and thus may have an idea about it.

At last a question I know the answer too! :)

You will be able to keep your grant as that is money to allow you to live on.

I know as I called up the student finance people myself, as I am going through applying for university myself at the moment.
  • You will get everything Student Loan, Student Grant etc.
Bankruptcy does not affect any of these.

sorry just to add if you have a student loan be careful what you use it for. there are threads on here that may help, for eg: dont buy a car or bonds etc as they become assests.
  • Thank you for the replies, good to know I will still be able to get my loans and grants.

I would think about paying it, Is it possible they may contact the employer for the payment?

Depends if you can afford it, or risk your employer finding out.
