    Shadow.
It is very underhand the way they are doing this. It needs to be stopped.

    unholy.
I agree, it's ashame they haven't got the mac then this could be proven with ease.

    NID.
    They had a court order.
They take a armful of ip's to a judge that is likely to grant the order then send thousands of letters.
As for the ip, your external ip from your isp is static, your router then asigns a different ip to each device associated with it.
Google 'whats my external ip' and it will be different from your computers ip.

    Beast.
    Why?
Just because a car is registered in your name doesn't mean you were driving it at the time of the accident.
They are assuming guilt and not asking if you downloaded it or not.

Its just another easy way for these parasite lawyers to make easy money ignore them. A big If it goes to court they should have to prove its you, I doubt they could

Well IMO that wouldnt be very just. Thats like someone stealing your car, killing someone with it and then YOU being charged with manslaughter.

Lets face it, any of the major filesharers who profit from illegal downloading should (i would like to think) be smart enough to take a few simple precautions in order to hide their IP.

Then again i despair of any criminal who is dumb enough to lead a trail of breadcrumbs. Although many of them exist :rotfl:

    How strange!
We used the same item (car) as a example.
Great minds and all that.............. :D

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

nothing illegal about downloading back ups of music you own.

Yes there is, in fact technically speaking it's a breach of copyright to rip a CD you own and put it on your iPod (though it's highly unlikely that would ever be persued).

Plus, with most music sharing methods, you also upload material as you download, so you are distributing it to other people as well as getting it yourself.

well technically, but lets be honest you are never going to go to court on those points
companies will go after people who release files onto the sites/networks
    as i said.say you get a court summons for a song/film
then you can rock up with a legit version of it
the only issue would be getting caught for stuff that wasnt released
like all those folks crying about their bricked 360's when they downloaded MW2 before it was released

    I would agree
anyway.say it did go to court
whats to stop the defendant buying the music on CD 2nd hand before going to court?

I have films on Bluray but i keep copies on the networked PC for streaming to the other rooms
its far far easier and quicker ofr me to download a copy than rip and transcode from the Blurays

Actually, in the UK until the legislation gets amended making backups of music and films IS ILLEGAL and definitely for Bluray copies since that involves circumventing the copy protection.

Your conception is a common misunderstanding I'm afraid!

Thus, strictly speaking, if you want a copy of a CD you own for playing in the car then you 'should' purchase a second original. Similarly, ripping CDs for an ipod is also illegal - you 'should' pay to download digital copies of the tracks!

However, at the moment the government, music bodies etc. simply turn a blind eye since it's not in their interest to bring such cases up. Legally though they are actually entitled to. There's been talk of amending legislation to cater for such cases but it's a very slow process and hence hasn't been done yet.

True, but if you're being brought to court for illegal downloading it's hardly wise to make your defence doing something else illegal, now is it?

well thats not going to happen ;)
its the same with so many parts of this modern age
companies are pushing for digital distribution
as the ISP's bring in traffic management
we get all new mobiles with loads of online features and the networks cut data allowances
thoughi have noticed more companies doing blurays with digital copies included

    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
