disabled and parents parking

A rant including a genuine question here...

Why is it when there are an abundance of disabled parking bays but only rare parent & child parking slots, do some blue badgers insist on parking in the parent & child spots??

I cannot go and park in their spots without a fine.

It drives me mad when anyone parks in P&C without children, or those that do with maybe 1 child aged 15 for e.g.

But when you already have designated parking for holding a blue badge right outside the entrance, why do they need to pinch the the very few slots made available to us parents?

Maybe the particular spot they choose is more suitable for them? Or maybe there are no disabled bays empty?

Maybe, if they couldn't park in one, they'd have to turn around and go home? You wouldn't, as a parent. It's no big deal. Park in an ordinary space. You don't need a P&C space.

Yes you can. The blue badge scheme in private car-parks has no basis in law and any "fines" can safely be ignored. In fact, by restricting disabled parking places just to blue-badge holders, the private car-park operator is breaking the DDA. This is because they are discriminating against disabled people who do not have a blue badge.

I used to get annoyed by this kind of thing but one week my car was in the garage having a bit of TLC and I really needed to go to the supermarket. At the time my son was 3 and he was in a foul mood because he was tired. I got the bus with the pram and screeming son. Did my shooping then realised that this was going to fun getting home, it was!.

Im now just greatful that I can drive and park anywhere near the store, as its a millions times better than having to do it using public transport with a screeming kid and 4-5 heavy bags to carry.

Every slot is a parent slot apart from the disabled spaces. So you have far greater choice of where to park than a disabled person.

You have a child, not a disability!

P&C slots are just a marketing gimmick, in line with BOGOFs and loyalty cards. Then to actually try and demand a penalty from people for "abusing" them is just stupid (and unenforceable).

What are they going to do next, "fine" somebody who uses one of those special trolleys that can hold a baby, when they haven't got a baby with them?

  • It's the selfish and ignorant individuals in their monstrous 16s that you need to have a go at. They park in both P & C and blue badge bays when they have no legitimate need. The only need is that their vehicles are too big for the spaces used by us mere mortals and they're bone idle enough not to want to walk a few more yards.

Can I suggest you get over yourself and your overweening sense of entitlement.

P&C and disabled spots have no legal standing in a private car park and people can park where they want. If you don't like it, well, basically tough.

I can live with disabled parking spaces and wouldn't park in them. However having a 3 year old child is not a disability, they have legs and can walk. I park in those parking spaces with no compunctions whatsoever.

I got abuse from a mother the other day, who was clearly on her way to the pie department accompanied by her 6 year old son. I fail to see what gives them more of a right to park close to the supermarket doors than myself. I suspect she was more worried about having a heart attack from having to walk a hundred yards than any other reason :rotfl:

Perhaps you should be given free parking in town as well due to your self chosen disability, eg having a child.

If you see a red car parked in a P&C space and a guy coming back to it with his shopping accompanied by no children, say hi, it may be me :rotfl:

I'd actually say the opposite in most Supermarkets there are now more P&B slots than there are disabled spots

The amount of times I see and have been unable to Park in Disabled bays due to people taking those spaces is a weekly occurrence which makes it impossible for my wife. Having children is a choice having a disability isn't.

You don't get any sympathy from me as you can walk from somewhere else in the carpark without problems. You have a choice unlike most disabled people. They can't let someone else look after their disability.
