The salt water is probably to blame, as it will corrode the circuit boards quicker than just normal water.

Do check any insurances you have, travel, phone, home, bank account (with mobile insurance).

Otherwise it will be a pricey repair job.
Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies

Thanks for all the posts, everyone. I got an appointment at the Genius Bar and went today. Within 15 minutes, I was walking out with a brand new iPhone as my existing one didn't charge. I saw him look at the headphone socket for water damage and he didn't seem perturbed. No questions asked. They just gave me a new one. Fantastic service! :)

My son had a 16 3gs that stopped charging after 4 months vodaphone sent it away and when it came back they said water damage. No red markers and wanted £149 to repair. Was going to go through house insurance but went to Apple who said that not charging is a fault and that sensors inside become loose. They tightened them but still wouldn't charge so got a new phone free of charge and a invoice stating no water damage. Cannot fault Apple but Vodaphone......
