My aunts son has Symetric psoriatic arthritis, he is waiting to have orthopedic surgery to help ease the pain.
Gran did receive Attendance Allowance, but my aunt and her husband both worked as well as taking turns caring and my mum, cousins and myself all took turns to give my aunt a break.
but no one received carers allowance for her.
It's all additional info that will help their case, even if not necessarily to stay at the same property

Yesterday and today we kept trying to get in touch with Shelter but no one answered our calls.
Shelterdo a fantastic job and unfortunately their lines are always very busy

We did try to get help from the MP but it seems that he might be one of the people on the panel to meet tomorrow. he just made some strange comment about my aunt doing well to still be active and working at her age and to keep up what ever she was doing as it is obviously working for her. we were so shocked we just left confused.
Some MPs are more useful than others for this sort of issue, but as Clutton said earlier its best to exhaust all other potential avenues of support first.

This morning we went to the Law centre, The were very helpful my aunt and uncle broke down several times but the law centre said basically what everyone on here has told me. But they said that they will try to help, and once we have the decision, they expect the panel to rule not to allow my aunt permission to stay in her home, they will take it further. However they said they are going to try to have someone in the meeting tomorrow to represent my aunt.
Excellent news that you have some help - take it one stage at a time. It is hard to deal with these issues on top of bereavement but moving to a different property does not destroy happy memories of times you all had in the old place: you take those with you. If you are concerned about your Aunt's ability to cope , you could perhaps get in touch with Cruse - link here

Good luck. If you have time, perhaps you'd keep the thread updated with how things progress, as it may help others who face similar situations.

You said your gran was a joing tenant with her huisband?

therefore she wouldn't have succeeded the household as she was a joint tenant - so you're aunt would take the first succession surely?

No because the initial tenancy was to the husband. This then succeeded to the joint tenancy. This was a reflection that many years ago tenancies were typically granted to the husband only (the same used to be true with mortgages).

Since then the rent acts have limited successions to one. (At the time of the original tenancy, there was no such limit on succession).

debfra - You're in England right?

In Scotland this joint tenancy wouldn't count as a succession I'm fairly certain...

THANK YOU to everyone who gave their time to answer me. The meeting took place today, and the result is my aunt and her family get to stay in their home. They are being given a new tenancy. We are all so pleased, my aunt cant stop crying, with happiness this time.
It seems the lady at the Law centre emailed the housing but I dont know how much effect the email had on the decision. The Housing officer telephoned just before they closed, She was very nice and apologized for putting my aunt under so much stress after the death of her mum.

    Thank you again

Thanks for letting us know and best wishes to your auntie.

Is suspect that someone pointing out that they were going right against their own housing policy AND that they would have to re-house the family anyway helped.
