ANTENNA ENGINEERS at Apple tried to warn Steve Jobs that the Iphone 4 was broken, but he insisted that it looked so nice that people would buy it anyway.
According to the New York Daily News, Jobs knew that there was a problem with the reception, but he thought Apple fanbois would be more impressed with the sleek design.
He thought it unlikley that anyone would try to call anyone on it, obviously.
When it was revealed that the Iphone 4 was broken, Apple said the problem was a software malfunction and even suggested that people were stupid for holding their phones incorrectly.
Legions of fanbois were despatched to websites to call reporters who covered the broken Iphone 4 "biased" and threaten never to visit the site again if they ever mentioned it.
However it appears there were just enough normal people who were furious that Steve Jobs had flogged them a broken phone to make a difference.

Hmm... I'm beginning to think people are making up stories here.
BUT even if this is true, maybe Steve was right. There are interviews on CNN of people claiming that they are dropping a few more calls but they're willing to live with it. I guess all phones are a compromise anyway, I love my Desire but I can hardly see the screen in direct sunlight and have to charge the battery every day. Is this a design flaw? Maybe so, HTC *could* have made the battery bigger, but then it would have made the phone bigger too. Apple could have covered that antenna in plastic or glass and put it in the phone somewhere, but then it wouldn't have looked so good either.
With the Nokia 6310i I had years ago I could charge the phone up about once a fortnight and could see the screen perfectly even on those odd bright days we sometimes get.0 -
