alternatively (and unless o2 have tampered with the menus) the phone has a built in auto setup feature.
In the menu, go to Settings -> Wireless controls -> Mobile Networks -> Auto Internet Services and the phone will set up for whichever sim is in the phone.
I have used the above for all the UK networks on a sim-free Xperia.====0 -

That might not work if the phone is network locked. In that situation you will need to pay a nominal amount to the network to get it unlocked.bubblesmoney :hello:0 -

The state of the lock status would have no relevance to the software version on the phone, if the menu has been greyed out the phone would need to have a debrand flash of its firmware (though o2 don't normally tamper too much with the firmware).
A locked phone can be debranded, while a debranded phone can still be locked.====0 -

Software versions are different for unbranded and network modified versions on android handsets like the desire, so I guess the situation is similar for song erickson phones also. See shipped roms website where you will see different versions of software for various networks and unbranded desires. The same is the reason why software updates come at different times for unbranded and network branded handsets.
The radio software can be different too on different networks or the prl settings etc will be dfferent I guess.bubblesmoney :hello:0
