A rhetorical question to anyone who reads this:

When was the last time you opened your copy of Yellow Pages?

Their still very popular with Telesales cold callers though.

As I understand it, you'll still get a free listing with a business line, but - and it's a big but - it won't appear in the classified section, only in an alphabetical section at the end of the book. People browsing a category won't see you; you will only be found by someone who knows your trading name and is specifically looking for you.

If you don't want to pay a substantial sum for semi-display or display in the classifieds, it's hardly worth paying the extra for business line rental.
Hmm. Yellow pages think they have the advertisers over a barrel. But if they are not going to classify the free listings, then the book becomes considerably less useful. I think I would put it straight out for recycling. Fat lot of help this latest move will be for the piad advertisers.

Speedee, don't think Heinz was having a go at your grammar or spelling. The way you wrote the entry made it look like your father could rip a video or DVD player in half!!!

No I didn't think that, but I wish I read more books at school!!! Instead of watching too much TV!!! I never read books, just magazines and text books!

I will have to re-read that as I never spotted that one!!! LOL I tell people I'm crap at English!! I got a 'D' first and re-took it a year later and got a 'B' - I'm 40+ now, so 20+ years ago they started dumbing down!!!

I'm no good at short and to the point! I turned into my mother - more rabbit than a supermarket (no adverts!!) ;-)

edit: Yes I see what you mean LOL !!! If it wasn't for Heinz my families phone bills would be enormous!! I never did fully understand the way the dialer box spreadsheet works, one day I'll suss it out! but it's not at the top of my list, I keep helping other people out with their problems, never mind that's what friends are for!! :-)

That's exactly the way I (deliberately) took it! That's just the way my sense of humour works. No offence intended.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I'm supposed to have a GSOH, one of my friends says I'm mad, and I've known him 20 years! One of my friends is wittier than me - so that makes me a bit gullible! I say thick - like my skin!! I say I got something in the Poundshop - people say how much?, I don't say £1 anymore, but I did for a while!! LOL I learned my lesson :D

For a 'freee' advert, agreed, but then the enhanced cost of rental brings a number of additional benefits. (a) Accellerated repair priority over a similar 'residential' line. (b) The provision of VAT invoices (c) Enhances rates of compensation when the line remains faulty if not repaired within X hours of it being reported.

Anyone running a business on a residential line will get the service they deserve.
