Hi
I'm not sure where to post this question! so here goes!!
Someone has asked me if i had heard that Yellow Pages are starting to charge for all their adverts now in the paper version. A basic line and phone number for a business was free once, but this person says he had a phone call from someone who said they were Yellow Pages and wasn't 100% about the costs or if they were trying to pull the wool over his eyes and charge him when he'd rather have just the free advert as he is a part-time one man band plasterer.
Have you heard???
Thanks

A rhetorical question to anyone who reads this:
When was the last time you opened your copy of Yellow Pages?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

My Dad does sometimes, he doesn't know how to work a DVD player or a video though!!! He used to be able to rip one up with his bare hands too!
It wouldn't surprise me if they are going to charge, as they have shareholders to please. I had BT shares, but sold them in 2000. BT do their own "yellow pages" now, in competetion with the part they sold off!! if that makes sense! (the directors, their advisers and the banks probably made a lot of money!!)
I have 3 computers, but still open the yellow pages, but not often, touch wood nothing goes wrong!!
I Googled the question first, as I do everything! and a Window repairman has had the same experience and is pulling all his adverts and advertises his services on-line himself!! If everyone does that I wouldn't want to be holding Yell.com shares!!!0 -

As I understand it, you'll still get a free listing with a business line, but - and it's a big but - it won't appear in the classified section, only in an alphabetical section at the end of the book. People browsing a category won't see you; you will only be found by someone who knows your trading name and is specifically looking for you.
If you don't want to pay a substantial sum for semi-display or display in the classifieds, it's hardly worth paying the extra for business line rental.0 -
Which one - a DVD player or a video?
Computers have made a lot of people slack, my maths is bad now, my grammar and spelling, my phone remembers phone numbers not me anymore! I'm pretty good compared to my friends children! who do you blame for the dumbing down and the state of the world? not me!! :-)
I went out with a teacher that can't spell! She's got great legs though! ;-)0 -

I'll mention that to him when I phone him back :money:
He hasn't got a lot of money, and should be retired now, but his pension was hit by the World Economy! and the building trade isn't the same now either!! so he's a bit stuck between a rock and a hard place, especially as he is on his own now :-(0 -
Speedee, don't think Heinz was having a go at your grammar or spelling. The way you wrote the entry made it look like your father could rip a video or DVD player in half!!!0
