Why do online shops take orders when they don't have the phone in stock?

I have ordered the phone on orange, I am currently with O2 but since I moved offices at work I struggle to get an O2 signal.
I called 0800 294 6020 to order my phone and they did say something about the web having a different warehouse.
It is so frustrating when you are trying to get a new phone as I am the kind of person who doesn't like waiting, lol!
Have you called the web helpline number again or may be worth trying that number I called above.
Hope you get it sorted soon.0 -

I can't wait either, in fact I chose P4U as they had next day delivery even over here in N.I most companies use a courier that takes longer to Northern Ireland, I will try the number you called and see where I get.0 -
Right well I called them, I mentioned about yourself dizzyblonde, they told me mine was dispatched today aswell, I said I had not received an email, they said it can take up to 24hrs, I really don't know, I'll give them to Tuesday for delivery, if its not here i'll cancel.0

My husband is at home all day tomorrow so will have to make him get up when I go to work so that he doesn't miss the delivery man lol!0 -
Ok, getting really really !!!!!! of by this company, I have just received the following email out of the blue.
Good Morning Sam,
Thank you for your recent e-mail, I have taken the opportunity to look into your account and can confirm that your order has passed our security checks and has been forwarded onto our warehouse team to be processed accordingly. We would advise that this will be dispatched in the next 24-48 hours.[/I]
Well I never emailed them to start off with so what they are on about I don't know, but after it was supposed to be dispatched yesterday I now am being told the same as I was told on Friday that its been sent to the warehouse to be dispatched, I really would tell them to stick it only I got declined on Saturday on credit check when I went in store to get one, obviously as I have applied to close together0 -

No! Waited until 1.30pm before ringing them and they said as it was dispatched on a Sunday RM would only be collecting it from them today so will be with me tomorrow before 1pm!
Actually made it into a phone shop tonight and wish I hadn't ordered online as they had them in stock but didn't want to risk another contract application.0 -

Just been back on their website and it states that they are out of stock for online orders, there is an option for getting updates on stock status.
I really hope mine arrives tomorrow, will let you know.0 -
This is interesting.. as i was on the phone to T Mobile today- asking where my upgrade was, the Desire, and he said there was such a backlog of orders ( my order was 15 days ago) that no providers were able to supply this phone for at least another 2 weeks!!
Is he telling me porkies..??0
