if i remember rightly you have to ring royal mail customer services who will give a reference number and then send you a form to fill in,you have to nominate an account for the money to be paid into and give your bank details. you have to post identification aswell,ie,copy of death certificate,your identification,i took wedding cert,bank,card utility bill etc.if i remember rightly the post office copied them all for me and sent it off,was in a bit of a fog when i did it,was my brother who had died.the money was then paid into my account couple of weeks later.Shine on you crazy diamond..............0

Yeah, they have said theres about £40 that will re paying but they will send e a letter to claim it back later.
The man from benefits did say that we could close it at the post office its self as we will need the funds to pay for his funeral asap.
Heads in a bit of a dither really so cant really remember what exactly he said about closing in branch x0 -
maybe they did that for me in the post office and then i waited for the cheque,as you say your head gets messed up doesnt it.as far as the funeral,my brother wasnt insured,never expected to die young:(.i put a claim in to dwp and the funeral directors waited til that came through and thenm we paid the rest off in 2 chunks.they are very understanding you know,they appreciate you dont have the cash to hand.would take as long for a policy to be sorted.explain to them.i just remember going the PO with all the stuffn and them copying it.sorry if i misled you or gave wrong info.Shine on you crazy diamond..............0

when my father passed away earlier this year I took his death cert and my ID to his bank and they closed the account and allowed a cheque to be made out to the funeral directors when I showed them the bill.
I got a cheque from the DWP for the underpaid amount of his pention.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will.

The banks not a problem as i have searced the protocol of his bank and they will write a cheque to the funeral directors.
Were not able to claim for the social as all of us work and receive no sort of benefit at all. The only way they would have paid wouldhave been if we had not claimed him and the hospital sorted it out which isnt a nice tough really.
We just need the money from the post office asap to so they work out a payment plan for the remainder or the money.0 -
There's a form you can get from the Post Office to advise of the death/claim the balance - this is probably the simplest way.0

You can't do that - it's handled centrally and it takes at least 10 days. Post #2 is close to being spot on.
You need to ring them / get a Reference number and that also freezes the account. You can normally get a form at the local PO ..... you need to put the provided Reference on it and provide death certificate and ID for yourself + nominated Bank account for the funds to go into.
Last time I had this thankless job to do it took just over 2 weeks from completing the form at the PO to getting the funds in my account.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Cheers everyone for the advice x0
