I would say anywhere from 18 months at the earliest. My son however is 2 1/2 and still in his cot as I know when he goes in his bed I'll have a nightmare at bedtime!

I don't think there's any rush and it does seem like a competition with some parents I know about who's child has done what first. If you and your child are ready then that is the right time. ;)

I have got his bed though, got a bargain fire engine bed for £84 off a link on this site :j

  • Unfortunately my son could climb out of his cot at 15 months, he's since mastered the safety gates, the car seat and the gate in the back garden.

    We call him houdini.

my dd went into a bed just before she was 2 as no2 child was due and i didnt want to lift her weight out of a cot if i had another section.. i used a normal pillow but i actually put it under her mattress to begin with as i was paranoid! :P
she still has one under her mattress and has a very flat one on her bed.
It only seems kinky the first time.. :A

I've never heard of toddler pillows!

Both my boys just had normal pillows. My eldest was in a bed at 18 months, as I knew I was expecting the second so wanted him settled in a bed before baby was born. The second was in a bed from 9 months as he was climbing up and over the cot side in a morning to get out, and I was worried about him falling off it.
Here I go again on my own....
  • I have used a normal pillow/duvet for ds3 since he was 12 months, no probs there:T

we had a cot bed bought for our daughter and we changed it to a bed when she was about 18 months. the beds are quite a bit smaller than single beds so i bought cot bed pillow (£5 at dunelms) and a cot bed quilt with matching bedding. She will prob be in it till she's about 4 or 5 so i didn't mind buying the bedding, plus her room looks nice and she is not swamped by oversized bedding:o
:p It is better to be thought of as an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt
