toddler pillows?

Little one (just 2) now has a duvet in his cot. Are toddler pillows worthwhile (he doesnt seem bothered) and would I be ok adapting an existing cushion and making a cover, rather than splashing out £20 in mothercare?

both my sons just had normal pillows :)

never used one in a cot though ,they went into beds @ 22 months old

  • Have to say all my 3 have managed without! what are toddler pillows? When they moved to a bed I just always made sure that they had a fairly flat pillow so that it did not appear too strange after just lying on the cot mattress.

you know how it is, Mothercare and the like sell all sorts they think you need.

Then you think again and ask yourself `why?`!

They're just little pillows as far as I know!!!

as above we just used a normal thin pillow once he got his own bed. (2yrs now and is either lying off the pillow or lying across the bed on top of it usually!!)

Ds has had a feather pillow since he was about 11 months, he loves to fiddle with it whilst he's going to sleep.

  • both mine had normal pillow and quilts from 12 months but I used to put the pillow under the bottom sheet so they couldn't smother themselves with it, at 18 months when they went into beds then the pillow went as normal.

Used a toddler pillow for about 6 months - got it from ikea for a couple of quid.
  • Use a normal pillow, it only gets laid on dribbled on and occasionally spewed on, don't waste your money on a 'toddler pillow'

  • I thought toddler pillows were there with special ventilation/breathing holes in them to reduce the risk of cot death. I used them but I am generally very paranoid and overprotective about my offspring. Son now is 2 1/2 but uses a flat pillow. if you go to asda or TJ Hughes you can pick a couple up for about £3
