If I close Mozilla and then reopen I get this message:
Ffox is running but not responding. To open new window you must first close Ffox or restart PC.
I have been advised to kill FF by opening Taskmanager-process and ending manually. This does sem to be a crude solution -does anyone knowor a better method or preferably how to reconfigure Ffox to stop this.By the way I am using version 3.6

Thanks folks but I think I have a link0 -
That may not solve the problem. What sites are you running when this problem happens? Often things using java and flash don't close correctly and can cause this problem. Do you have any firefox addons installed?0

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

... don't close correctly and can cause this problem.
This is true.
Sometimes Firefox doesn't shut down cleanly.
Just as you use Task Manager to shut it down manually when using Windows, with Ubuntu Linux the same job is done using
System Monitor > Processes
Right-click 'Kill process'.Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -
Another Linux user eh? I should probably create a "Linux users of MSE" topic0

The above method seems to have worked but its early days0

I have a few including no script, flashblock.Java and several others.
Do you mean what sites am I visiting when this happens?I cant say I have detected a pattern .It seems to be more frequent since I upgraded to version 4.0.I have reinstalled 3.6 as so many addons are not compatible with later version.I therefore have two versions but never operate them simultaneously.Could this cause a conflict? If so I will uninstall M4 until the software has caught up.
Thanks for helping me John0 -

Will the deleted file replace itself in future?
If you look now you'll see that it's there again.
It's supposed to delete the lock file when Firefox shuts down.
Sometimes when Firefox doesn't shut down cleanly it doesn't delete the lock file. That's why you have to go and delete it yourself (Or else use Task Manager to force Firefox to quit cleanly).Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0
