My cat is chipped but he also used to wear a collar. It had an elasticated bit and was fairly loose - I could easily pull it over his head without undoing it. So anyway, one day he came home without it, so I decided to use the quick release ones - five collars (and tags) in three weeks later I gave up and now rely on the chip.
But the awful thing is that the other week I found the old elasticated collar tangled in the hedge at the bottom of my garden - and almost chewed right through - he must have been really caught in that hedge before he freed himself.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -

With microchips nowerdays, collars are imho a redundent & dangerous accessory for a cat.A lot of owners use them with bells to alert wildlife but then again, foxes & badgers dont wear collars to alert the wildlife.0 -
Our insurance (Tesco) actually has a clause saying if they're not wearing collars outside, they're not insured.
So Splodge and Nev got collars the day they got snipped and chipped, so they had a couple of weeks to get used to them before they went outside.
We're now on collar 3 for both of them, but they're both climbers and so we envisage finding lots of collars when the undergrowth thins back in the autumn! We may not have it all together, but together we have it all
