Bags on train seats!?
Comments

I don't like the opposite situation where there are plenty of double seats empty on a bus (i dont use trains) and somebody will come and sit next to me. It really annoys me because it makes me paranoid but you can hardly get up and move to another seat without looking ignorant can you.
I'll normally put my bag on the seat next to me until all there are no completely empty double seats anymore and then i'll move it so anyone can come and sit next to me. Is that ok with people in general or do you think I'm being unreasonable?
I also dont understand people at the cinema or at football matches when the place is almost completely empty and they come and sit right next to you. Why do people do that?0 -

Yes, I think that's reasonable. Many times I've sat on a nearly empty bus and seen someone get on and sit RIGHT NEXT TO ME. If you're using public transport you need to reserve your seats to stop the weirdos sitting next to you.0 -

I do the same - try to encourage people onto the empty seats before sitting next to me.
As to why they do it, I don't know, but it's probably the same mentality that causes them to park their car in the space right next to yours in an otherwise completely empty carpark.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

this is such typical british behaviour. in london, the only people who dare ask people to move their bags are the french or italians. and people always try and take up two seats by arming themselves with bags and spreading themselves out. i dont think its that they cant be arsed to put them overhead - they would just rather have 2 seats to themselves. i've been gulity of it but whenever i notice the train getting busier, i just stick my bag under my seat. but yeh - travelling on trains in britain during peak time requires a certain mental fortitude0

If I ever go on public transport, I always make sure Ive got something with me to take up the other seat, I always get the smelly, trampy people on public transport sitting next to me0

I normally stick my bag on the seat next to me and if the train/bus starts to fill up, I'll stick it under my legs. I think it's really rude to take up the only free seat with your bag.0

Is there anybody else besides me old enough to remember the Jasper Carrott 'nutter on the bus' routine when they read this??? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -

I find it's not so bad for that here. I admit though being 33 weeks pregnant I tend to sit near the front now and we have an old person with a walking frame who just loves to make people move. If any of the front seats are being taken up, she will insist she needs that particular seat.
Thing is, she's not that immobile? she's just awkward. Everyone that regularly uses the bus has heard her being horrible to someone.
She told me once when the twins were smaller that I shouldn't bring my twin buggy on the bus because it was too big  never mind that it's 2 miles to school and DD1 was only 4!
I asked her if she was going to buy me a car. Shockingly, she said no. My response:
'Then kindly stop moaning about me catching the bus!'
She hasn't tried to pick on me since
I only have one person who comes and sits right next to me when the bus is empty, he's harmless enough, friendly to chat to, just a bit odd.
Talks to everyone's chest :rotfl: But if you do your jacket up he stares into your eyes instead which is worse.Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

Personally I have more problem with people rushing past me when I'm on crutches to get the only seat left in that carriage and having the nerve to sit in it . I can't walk down the carriage and into the next to see if there are any seats - I don't have the energy and the pain doen't let me walk more than I have to. I have had to sit on the floor before in trains because people pretend to ignore the girl on the crutches obviously needing a seat. It's worse in London I've found which is even worse as there are priority seats which should be given up for people like me but people rarely do.
I know this one isn't trains - however I have been on the bus and the girl infront of us sat in the priority seats even though she had seen me on my crutches behind her! She pretended to ignore my glaring at her the whole trip. Obviously I made an impression because at the stop she ran off before I had even stood up.
I can bet I'm still going to have problems when I use a wheelchair from now on.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0 -

I don't know about trains (Can't be easy to get a wheelchair on one) but on the buses here people move for wheelchairs without being asked mostly. If there are 2 buggies the driver might say the bus is full, but then he'd otherwise have to throw passengers off who've already paid.
Even being pregnant and in considerable pain a lot of the time (I have SPD) I would still move if I saw someone with crutches get on.
I don't move for the old witch though, especially if I'm the only other person on the bus and she just has to sit where I am, especially if 2 days before I've seen her make someone else move because she just had to have the opposite seat, which just so happened to be the only occupied one!
She is politely yet firmly reminded how much she wanted that one last time and how lucky that it's free todayMum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o
